Going BPU with the VVTI

Just looking for some other people's experiences really as I've had nothing but problems with getting the car to boost right. It worked for probably 24 hours when it was first done and then simply won't boost right on either turbo. Max boost in parallel is 0.89 bar with no restrictor ring, I'm assuming something isn't working but have no idea. Have been told by a few people it's a PITA to get it working on the VVTI sometimes but others have said theirs works fine. Thinking about going back to stock and keeping the car as mint as possible and then selling up. Maybe get a single turbo instead which has always been my end goal. I have been looking at GTRs but my misses said she'd kill me if I abandon supras and to be honest I can't imagine not having one!

Anyway any experiences would be appreciated as it would help me to understand the vvti a bit better I think.

Thanks everyone

I'm running bpu on my vvti supra dude. Same boost controller as you too, I have no issues, runs 1.2bar no problem. I have a restrictor ring fitted too.

It does sound to me like something isn't working right for you, I didn't think bpu'ing a vvti was any different, or harder, than a none vvti tbh

Must be something broken then, I've tried with and without the restrictor ring which makes no difference.

Sorry if this seems a stupid thing to say but have you checked all your VSV's and all associated pipework?

According to the garage they've tried the vsvs with another set from a working car and the pipe work has been checked so many times I've lost count.

Mine was N/a.. had full vvti TT lump fitted with full stage 4 whifbitz BPU with 1 bar restrictor. No problems at all. Are you running a hks FCD (fuel cut defender) ..

Nah I changed to the chris Wilson fcd as I knew the hks was unreliable.

Thanks for letting me know guys, I knew there shouldn't be a problem with it being VVTI....

What exhaust do you have, from the decats back? Was the boost controller new? I'd take the boost controller pipework off and refit as stock as long as you can read the boost somewhere then try it like that. Be careful in case it works properly and without the ring you then get boost spikes.

I bought a bbu car with a boost controller and it had issues, so it is now effectively just a nice boost guage with a handy boost warning alarm, the restrictor ring limits it to 1.1bar, i've done the mod to slightly up the first turbo boost and I'm happy with that. Boost controller isn't really required unless you want a higher setting for the strip or odd blast but I'm happy at the safe® 1.1bar

Do you trust the garage that carried out the work? Have you thought about trying one of the traders on here for a second opinion?

I was recently given a full set of VSV's from a low mile VVTi running BPU without any issues. If you want to try these you are more than welcome to them :)
