stevie_b
I'm after recommendations for a website design firm. The website of the company I work for needs a redesign, and I'd like personal recommendations of who to use please. I'm after top-notch visual impact and an impressive UX, not something from a CMS template shop. The website acts as a shop window for the company, but also provides a portal for clients to log on and access documents and other info. Any recommendations please? I know there are some web designers on here, and I'll consider those who have personal recommendations from others.

I'm on the lookout for a genuine white hat SEO/online marketing partner for our clients. I specialise in enterprise SEO for blue chip companies such as O2, British Airways, Adidas etc. As you can imagine, these types of SEO campaigns are not your average marketing seo BS that promises you a number 1 spot within 4 weeks. I'm concentrating on getting the website designed and developed initially (or does good SEO need to be built in at the design stage?) but I'm potentially interested in what you offer. What would the cost and timescale be please? And what is the deliverable (e.g. first page on google and ... for 5 specific searches?) What would the cost and timescale be please? And what is the deliverable (e.g. first page on google and ... for 5 specific searches?) SEO should be considered before any web development has started. The content management system you pick to develop your website can heavily influence your SEO performance. For example, if you build your website on wix.com, you will struggle to rank for anything significant. This is due to your website being built in almost 100% JavaScript which Google cannot render properly, meaning it will be invisible. Another example is user experience, Google's algorithm takes the user experience very seriously. If you develop and design a product page, with no content above the fold. You will struggle to compete with competitors. Regarding deliverables, SEO is usually broken down into multiple sections - Technical SEO - On-page SEO - Content SEO - Off-page SEO Please be very careful with who you pick to do you SEO. Most amateurs will ask you for a set amount of money per month i.e. £200/month and promise to get you to the top of Google. The first thing you need to do is ask these people, how are you doing to do it? Most amateurs will not ask you for access to your website and will not provide you with on-page SEO recommendations detailing what needs to be fixed/changed on your website, meaning they will focus on crude off-page SEO technics might work, which results in temporary performance. By crude off-page technics, I mean they will spam your website with thousands of low-quality backlinks. Unfortunately, this will eventually result in a Google penalty and you'll need to pay someone to clean up your off-page profile in order to remove the Google penalty. Additionally, focusing on solely off-page SEO will not help you rank for competitive keywords, on-page SEO is compulsory. To be perfectly honest, I'm not bothered if you are interested in me doing your SEO or someone else. I just want to give you, and everyone else an insight into what happens when you pick an amateur to run your SEO campaign. Regarding SEO experience, you can see my linkedin profile here
Angarak
Also bear in mind accessibility (catering for people with disabilities who may require assistive devices such as screen readers) is also important and should be implemented during the development of the website - not botched in adhoc once the site is designed. Regarding SEO experience, you can see my linkedin profile here Good info there, thank you. I can imagine that heavily client-side CMS systems are pretty rubbish for SEO. But the vast majority seem to be written in server-side PHP. Some of the bespoke ones might confuse Google's spiders if they're written badly, but by using one of the big names, I'm guessing that there isn't a huge difference in SEO capability when in the hands of a good SEO person. For example, I can't imagine people saying "Don't use Drupal, because it makes SEO difficult". It would be like saying, "Don't buy such-and-such car, because the wheels tend to fall off." Good SEO is such a fundamental part of a public-facing website, it's surely a must when someone creates a CMS system that's intended to be exposed to the public.
