mc92
The R154 casting is a bit different I think so it might be more identifiable by that, I'm not sure about length. Found a comparison pic on the google: http://s1250.photobucket.com/user/sqperformance/media/Funkytoon/R154/r154vsw58_567_zps82f20441.jpg.html

pedrosixfour
The R154, and I'm only talking about the later generation box with the gearstick cradle, would be longer than the W58, but only by about 40mm. The R154, both generations, would be significantly wider than the W58 though. If you type 'Register' into the search box on the main page and then go to page 22 of the track car register & chat thread, which should appear on the first page of the search results, you'll find a comparison picture I posted of an old model R154 and a W58. One other significant difference between any R154 and a W58 is the operation of the clutch release mechanism. The R154 is a pull type and so has a large hub attached to the fingers of the clutch pressure plate. The clutch fork slots into this hub and pulls on the fingers to disengage the clutch. The W58 on the other hand is a push type and has no such hub mounted in front of the pressure plate fingers, all that's there is a much smaller pressure release bearing which the clutch fork presses on to disengage the clutch. If you can compare the two boxes for this difference then you can be pretty sure of the models.
