Action Jackson
Hello, I guess im turning into "that guy"... but I was wondering as since the BPU is essentially double decat, do you need to find yourself a "friendly" MOT tester to pass a Supra with BPU on emissions or is there some sort of loophole that I am missing? There is probably a million and one threads asking this exact thing but oh well
drift_bear
A friendly MOT tester is getting hard to find these days, i just chance putting the car in the way it is but always keep the cat in the boot incase. 9/10 they can't be bothered to change it and just pass it lol
squiffy
mine passed a legit mot with just the 2nd cat in. so at least if you can't find a friendly tester putting just one back in is easy enough
fastcar
It's a grey area! The j spec was never built to EC standards so it doesn't need a cat test! Were as the UK spec was built to EC standards so does need a cat test! But trying to argue this with an mot man is like banging you're head against a brick wall! They just say it has a match in the book so that's that, even though on the emissions side of things they are different. But you can't educate the poor so good luck
Style
If it's pre 1996 then it will probably just have a standing idle test carried out on it and in most cases you'll be fine. I've heard of fully decatted Supras passing on that test. Anything 1996 onwards though gets tested to stricter criteria.
Dnk
Don't cars that had cats fitted from new have to physically have one fitted these days ?
Swampy442
Its an import so its not subject to the same rules.
ianhid
Mine doesn't stand a hope in hell of passing the emissions test properly with no cats in, it's a J-spec '97 BPU. Doesn't take much to pop a cat back in if you have to though.
Alex_GT
I thought this has been discussed before, and the conclusion was that there is no way to get round not having catalytic converters fitted. The rules for the test close all loopholes. Doesn't matter what year the car is, or whether it's an import, you cannot get round the emissions test. The rules for the test close all loopholes. Doesn't matter what year the car is, or whether it's an import, you cannot legitimately get round the emissions test. Fixed that for you... Seem to remember reading on here that you can on an n/a. 2JZ GTE is on the system as was sold in UK but the GE isn't. Could be wrong but made sense at the time. Could be a good loophole for NA-T I guess?

But that's just it, it doesn't matter if the specific engine isn't "on the system", if not the default values of CO
Guest Budz86
My single passed an emissions test legitimately without touching the map or doing anything funny and that's with a 4" downpipe, 5" exhaust and 272 cams so the fueling is high anyway to get a smooth idle. Did need to be roasting hot though and took a couple of attempts!
