puna
I'm looking to hopefully buy my first Supra this Saturday, however I am seriously struggling to get insured. The car: Supra Twin Turbo Auto (around 10 modications, including being mapped to around 350hp) Myself: 24 years old (driving since I was 21) Live in PL postcode Completely clean licencse and have never claimed Storage/Mileage: Garaged day and night Social use only 2000 miles I tried updating my existing policy with Adrian Flux, they had no one that would insure me but didn't say specifically why (I will probably try ringing again) I then tried the following insurers: Sky Insurance - refused as I've had no prior experience of driving a high performance RWD car (I've driven an Audi RS3, Golf R and Golf GTI) Competition Car Insurance - refused as I wasn't 25 Footman James - again, refused as I wasn't 25 I then used a comparison site and Admirial quoted me £1.1k. Anyone have any suggestions on what I could tweak to get insured with a more competitive quote? Or even anyone else I could try? I'm not too sure why specialists seem to be unable to provide a quote, whereas more mainstream insurance companies can :| Cheers!
Supra2jze
Give Admiral a go.
el_bandido
Admiral is cheap at that price. Just be careful about what they cover, as while they might insure you with the mods, my experience is that they won't replace them.
tooquicktostop
1.1K seems right to me, its not cheap insuring a high insurance group car at your age, even more so when it has mods on it
samm
£1.1k? Is that £1100 if so that don't sound that bad, might be worth buying the car declare it sorn then wait till your 25..
cered
sounds about right, i'm with admiral, 9 years NCB at 26 and i'm paying about £1k

puna
Thanks for all of your replies. It's frustrating as I only have 2 months left on my existing policy and Adrian Flux won't insure me at all with the Supra. I just re-rang asking if there was anything I could do, however it is purely down to age and category of car. Admiral seem the way to go. I don't need the car as a daily, so I may just take day insurance until my current policy ends so I can bank the NCB before I get a full policy. Action Jackson
I have never insured any of my cars for under 5000 miles per year - purely because insurance is cheaper between 5k-10k. Even though when I was a student, I only did 4000 miles. Try popping higher mileage in to the search engine to lower your admiral quote - you might find it drops a little bit. AFAIK the logic is that if you barely ever drive the car, then you're more likely to crash as you're unfamiliar with it.
ripped_fear
I'm 26 with no claims from 17 years old, I have a TT6 fully insured, all mods declared, with agreed valuation of 16k, and I pay 700 and something so it can be done. I'm on limited mileage of 5k and the car is stored in a garage. This is with SKy who I would fully recommend. Think your driving history is going to be causing the high prices, I paid 1k iirc at 20 years old on my old NA but that came down yearly with experience and reduced dramitcally when the car became a toy and not my daily. Drgray
Try Need2Insure, but with you only driving 3 years I don't think you will get much lower than you have been quoted
X13mgr
Everyone's so young. I'm exactly same as ripped fear but being 32 and 15years no claims mine is £370. Only perk to getting older I guess
bayside_supra
Sky insurance are very good, they offer good monthly options as well. I paid for mine over 3 monthly payments and it only cost me an extra £40 to do that. My insurance is due just before Xmas so didn't fancy doing it all at once. 28 years old with 8 year NCB, TT6 aerotop all mods declared, £600. navtrd
I'm with Keith Michaels 4 years no claims bpu mods declared £425 but my annual mileage is low as I rarely drive it.
AC93
That sounds too cheap and I would be concerned about the validity of the policy at that price, is it an import ? Yeah it's import and under their classic car scheme. Only a weekend car and in a fairly low risk area
Annabella
Try LV, and then LV classic car if its older than 20 (the car) £145 classic, mods declared but I am over

Or there is a very important detail that is being left out Not exactly sure what there is to call bull shit about. All my cars have been insured with everything declared. My supras have been with sky since I could go with them. They have had detailed pictures of the car and no fully what is and isnt on it. Remember insurance is alot to do with location, and job. Alex_GT
Well I'm presuming the car is not insured on a normal car policy.
ripped_fear
Well I'm presuming the car is not insured on a normal car policy. Yes just limited millage as a second car as stated above, 5k miles a year for social domestic and commuting.
Drgray
I'm paying £450 a year for an r33 gtr with all mods declared. 27 years old on limited mileage policy. The supra would be cheaper to insure than that for me. It can be done easily.
Attero
Looks like I'm going to be the first one to step up and call bullshit on this. Or there is a very important detail that is being left out What is it exactly that you are not agreeing with? I am the same as Jake in that my insurance was £600-700 but that's without an agreed value. I am the same age with I think one year less no claims. It's perfectly possible. Jake's a lot of things... But one thing he is not is a liar and a lot of people here will absolutely agree with me.
Alex_GT
My details are also virtually identical, but I can't get insured for anything less than around £3000 with basic BPU mods. But then again I don't live in Hampshire, and it seems the job I do you wouldn't be seen dead doing, so I guess that's where the problem is.
