Final Toyota whinge of the day.

I've just found out how much my Toyota B service is going to cost. I can't say I wasn't warned!

 

Bear in mind that last Monday I was told £180 plus any extra consumable but no more than £220 tops. this was a guy at the service desk.

 

I get a phonecall telling me that the car is okay but need brake fluid and coolant change. I then hear some ridiculous prices and an all in total of £366.

 

I'm thinking how can this be? Double the service for two extra jobs. It transpires that I should have been quoted £250 for a B service but they will honour the quote plus give me 10% off parts and labour for having to go back and switch mny alarm off because they didn;t follow instructions.

 

So, I have to pay £266 all in and I really am going to have to find someone else to do the work. The previous owner used to take it to a place that, for a similar service, only charged £150.

Didn't the previous owner say he'd only just had the coolant and fluid done? It certainly looked nice and new when I saw the car.... I hate Toyota.

It was done 10,000 miles ago:shrug: He seems to have had it serviced every 10K with oil changes approx. every 4K. Does that seem about right.

 

The real pisser is that I have about 8 litres of Toyota red coolant just sitting here. If I'd have known I could've given them that to use

 

I really will never go back to them again. Like I said above the previous owner had the same work carried out for £150.:cry::cry::cry:

Labour at three hours for the coolant change! FFS. They've put in for more labour hours than they had the car for. I'm assuming that's to cover all the people that worked on it including the guy who was sat in the car whilst I watched.

 

One good thing to come out of it is I got the price knocked down from £366 to £250 and I won't be going back. Ever.

And another thing. They washed the car for me. They must have some brilliant Toyota invention from the Land of the Rising Sun becuase I've never seen any washing product that actually makes the car look worse than before it washed.

 

I now have to go out and clean it properly.

The only B service that goes along with a coolant change and brake fluid change is the 108000 mile one. All the other fluid change intervals line up with A services.

 

If your car hasn't done 108000 miles then they shouldn't have told you you needed any fluids changing. If this service was the 108000 mile one, then £366 was actually a good price from a main dealer (just to play devil's advocate).

 

I'm interested to know how many miles your car has done, because Toyota can get very confused about what is and isn't included in a service with imports.

75,000 miles. I'm already feeling ripped off and you aren't helping:help:The previous owner had services at 10,000 mile intervals. At 65k there was an advisory that the fuel filter and spark plugs might need replacing but they don't seem to have done anything with the spark plugs and they say it is impossible to get a fuel filter for Supras these days. Maybe thats why I managed to get the price down so much.

That's them. Benfield Toyota. Nice looking place but it seems really badly run. Someguy came in for a bottle of screenwash. He was kept waiting for the only parts guy for nearly ten minutes. The guy then took another five getting the screenwash and nearly ten minutes getting the guys change!

 

The only plus point of the visit was the gorgeous blonde in the showroom. She had the kind of arse you'd want to hang in a frame on the wall. Amazing.

It was Benfield in Leeds that put me off Toyota, they seem pretty shabby, I used to take my company Avensis to another dealer but they closed down and became Yes Car Credit. The only thing Leeds Benfield has going for it is really nice coffee, the service is as slow as you describe and the standard of work terrible - when I had my service I was charged for a fuel filter they didn't fit because they didn't have one (despite me booking the car in a month in advance!) plus many other niggles.

 

We need someone to setup shop at this end of the country, it's crying out for someone to look after us :)

not read through, so dont know if thuis has been mentioned, but iirc its illegal to bump price on work carried out. they MUST quote and obtain permission to do the work

 

i used to work for Renault service and we couldnt do additional work unless authorised

 

you would have been WELL within your rights to not pay for it

I couldn't agree more. We need a Chris Wilson, an Envy Performance (or Energy Performance if you read Japanese Performance!), a Whifbitz or a Vortex. Something run by people who undoubtedly know a thing or two about a thing or two.

 

Either that or I'm moving back darn sarf.

Then they clearly havn't got a clue. Its not rocket science. The proper schedules are in the service book FFS. And as for not being able to get a fuel filter... :(

 

If you want a bit more satisfaction, you might want to report them to Toyota UK?

Heres my advice :yawn: ...take it or leave it! (had UK and J-specs) :ecstatic:

 

With a main Toyota Dealership you have peace of mind (you can actually go back and complain and they are obliged to put things right) rather than chase you down the road with a tyre wrench or 'Make you stand outside their huge wooden gates in the cold at their home why they have a dodgy converstation on their mobile and no offer of coffee (Someone on here !!!!!!!!)

 

They DO overcharge, you have to find a GOOD Toyota garage...I found Pinwood in Coulsden (South London) to be very fairly priced and wouldn't charge you £14 for washer fluid like Jemca in Hendon or do anything unnessasary(when you didn't ask for it)

 

Dont get lured in by the blonde birds arse either Toyota charge for that too :eek:

 

Often you can tell them to inform you if it needs coolant or anything like that and then bring it home and do it yourself.

 

Often its difficult to make the choice between paying £75 per hour (Labour) for Toyota or £30 per hour for a backstreet outfit..and often if you get reccomended by someone to a backstreet garage you find that they do a great job for your mates and a shit job for you coz they dont know you...think you just have to weave your way until you find someone you can TRUST.

 

TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS..Even If You have been reccomended by someone

 

Going to Toyota you get a Toyota stamp on your service record but tbh it aint worth jack shit on a J-spec...just confirms to the next owner you got cleaned out!

 

Most mechanics can manage an oil service and brake pad change etc, though surprisingly enough i have even met a so called Tuner that cant even get THAT right was no-one from here thank God (but closely related) :giveup:

 

At least your cambelt has been done...(I guess) Toyota really take you to the cleaners on that one...I'm sure someone will be able to reccomend someone you can try locally..but unfortunetly it will be trial and error till you find the right garage...The Motoring Trade in this country is as currupt as F*ck! as we all know(watch ya wallet, and watch them if you can) :drown:

A Merc S500 is repaired at the "back street" garage which works on our cars. The owner takes it to Mercedes (90 quid an hour) for servicing, and tells them to let him know if any repairs are needed. Merc do the oil change (which costs a small fortune), stamp the book, then anything like pads, ball joints, plugs etc. are done (with genuine parts where appropriate) for £35 an hour instead of £90.

 

Some jobs may need main dealers (the only place that could read the ECU error codes on my daily driver C-Class 230K, unfortunately), but in the end, they are all just cars. As said above, the tricky bit is finding someone competent and trustworthy (who knows his limitations).
