tintinmt
I have a gen 2 Lexus GS430. It has fairly numerous scratches all around the car and they show badly, partly due to the dark blue metallic paint. I have given them a go with some cutting/polishing without success. There s no economic justification for repainting the car. I am curious as to whether a body shop or detailer might be able to substantially improve the look of the paintwork? Perhaps by re-lacquering?
peter richards
re laquer wont do much , depending how deep the scratches are a detailer would get them out or certainly greatly improve them
Dnk
Find a decent body/paint shop and get them to have a look at it, a pal does my car for me with a mop and cutting compound which removes most light scratches
baldy
no one can give advise on whats the best way to sort the issues without seeing the car. light scratches may polish out depending on how much paint is on the car, slightly deeper may need paint work. but as i say it needs to be seen in person
tintinmt
Thanks. So, should I go to a detailer first rather than a body shop? In my mind the body shop will want to repaint the car whereas the detailer would have the opposite view.
peter richards
yes , go see a detailer , he will asses the damage and if hes any good will recommend it be painted first , and when i say painted first , itl probably need detailing after the bodyshop . thats what i do anyway and the reason is the bodyshops just cant or dont have the time to finish down properly , all they tend to do is mop the panel after painting get it wet and give it back . el_bandido
As above. Had a section of my is250 resprayed then took it to a detailer for finishing and ceramic compound. Looks like it just rolled out of the factory and it's now incredibly easy to clean.
