Alex_GT
What sort of performance gain does a remap give on a stock twin turbo Supra? I can't get insured with BPU mods so trying a different route for better performance.
Frank Bullitt
You can't remap the stock ECU, try hunting for a Sard or Mines uprated version. You will still have to tell the insurance company if you do this just as you would if going BPU so if getting insured is an issue just enjoy the car as it is for a few years. Mk4Gaz
They are basically a factory ecu, with a daughter board soldered in, with a preset map on them. They typically : Raise the rev limit Remove fuel cut Remove the speed limiter Run more aggressive timing And are mapped for standard bpu mods (exhaust, decat, raised boost, etc) I've currently got my mines ecu for an auto up for sale
Sheefa
You would get minor gains from the above, you're best going full BPU. That is less extractive exhaust, decat pipes, restriction ring, boost controller or gauge (depending on supra model), FCD and better air filter ideally. Then raise the boost and enjoy. mellonman
Just go bpu and cough up the insureance, dont use go compare ect, you need a specialist like sky and Adrian flux
Tricky-Ricky
Its going to cost you the same for insurance, as they would both be classed as performance upgrades, whether you go the BPU route or a remap route, which has been explained is much more difficult to achieve, and BPU will get you more power anyway. Dnk
Why can't you get insured with bpu mods ?
Alex_GT
My current insurer will not insure vehicles fitted with a boost controller. The best quote I could get was aroun double what I'm paying now so I sort of gave up on the BPU idea.

Go BPU, fit a 1.2 bar restrictor ring to stop over boosting the ceramic turbos and then a mechanical/digital boost gauge just to keep any eye on boost levels. Job done. Alex_GT
It is an import, but I didn't want to increase the pressure to 1.2, I wanted to go up to 1.0 bar but be able to turn it down to stock pressure for normal driving.

Well just fit a 1 bar RR then and don't go on boost as much when driving normally. You're over complicating things here mate.
Mk4Gaz
You want a 2" restrictor ring which will raise your boost to around 1 bar, once you've ditched the cat and fitted a decat pipe
Nic
It is an import, but I didn't want to increase the pressure to 1.2, I wanted to go up to 1.0 bar but be able to turn it down to stock pressure for normal driving. Upping the boost from stock 0.8bar to 1.0bar is not going to make much difference when driving 'normally', even at 1.2bar it's still all about your right foot, the turbos will spool a bit quicker but it certainly doesn't compromise daily usuage, it just means that extra 60+hp is there when/if you want to use it. Nic
Yes I would still tell the insurance company, what sort of performance gain do you get from the Sard or Mines ones? An aftermarket ECU (Mines, TOMS, etc.) makes the throttle response a bit more eager, but they are expensive, the difference is noticeable but not significant, unless you remove the cats and up the boost it's really not worth it.
