Tricky-Ricky
Ongoing form my wife's laptop demise, due to the problems i had with the windows 10 cough "upgrade", i ended up removing it, trouble is that i think doing this causes yet more problems, anyway the upshot was that it corrupted the HDD/operating system, now the problem is that the wife didn't create a recovery/system image disc, So after formatting the HDD, which was the only option, i am now left with the prospect of having to pay Toshiba £50 just for a USB or CD to get Window 8 back onto it, as due to the product key being embedded in the bios, i cant just download windows 8 and install, the media creation tool wont let me so i was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem, and knew of a cheaper way around it? Annabella
If you have access to another machine you can download win8 or win 8.1 from microsft and burn a disc for nothing. If need be I can copy a cd (which is legal) but I would need to know the exact version it was originally, as in Win 8, home or Pro, or win 8.1 home or pro. That's my problem, i cant use the media creation tool to download another copy, for some reason it wont let me, apparently the satellite has the key embedded in the bios, so in theory if i try and load windows from a disc or USB and the bios will restore the licence, but that's why i am not sure if it needs to be a Toshiba version in order to restore the operating system? Thanks for your offer, and it would be very much appreciated, the other problem is that all the sticker on the back says is "windows 8" so i guess its just that, the Toshiba website seems to indicate that its a 64bit but i am not sure if its a home edition, i would presume its is. Annabella
I've installed off an OEM windows disc fine before, wouldn't worry too much about the toshiba bit. Version wise you need to try and cast your mind back to when you bought it? Where did you buy it from, should be on receipt the windows version? If you look at Tosh's support site with your serial no it may have an original spec? If all else fails I have an original win 8 64 disc that IRC works for both Home and Pro and picks it as per your bios during install, if not pick home. If its not classed as a 'business' laptop they usually just shipped home premium.
Tricky-Ricky
All the Toshiba site brings up for the serial number is windows 8.1 64bit, but the sticker says windows 8 ? this laptop was supplied by our insurance company as a replacement for one that was damaged, so no purchase receipt, and the box, and if it had any info has long since gone, to add to this we have since changed our home insurance provider, that's why its such a pain in all respects. Annabella
OK I've found a 8.1 disc too, I'll send both, try the win 8 first, you should know if its succesful or not if it asks for a licence code, it shouldn't if things are good. Obviously back up your data, best install is a clean install. Make note of the hardware in device manager too, as sometimes the manufacturer can list software for more devices than you have which just leads to confusion, if you can at least download to a stick the driver for your LAN card and Wireless LAN card so you can at least get online after install. Win 8 may detect devices anyway, it's a just an incase thing. PM your address.
MaveriK
KMSpico would assist greatly, why did you attempt to downgrade from 10 to 8??
Hitbox Junkie
You just need to download win8 or 8.1, Toshiba don't have there own version as windows is universal, just need the serial code.

As i said, the windows media creation tool wont allow me to download the image file, when i run it to download it just gives me this message "This service cannot be started, ether because its disabled, or because it has no device associated with it" ? And i couldn't find a torrent that was free of malware.
Willson
KMSpico Wondered if anyone would go down that road Do you have to rerun it every 180 days?
MaveriK
No, run the auto program and that's that side of it down. Put an exception for the directory in your AV, job done. Does Windows and Office.

Annabella
Have you tried uninstalling what win 8 has installed for the wifi and putting on Toshibas' after rebooting, or the other way round as in letting windows update sort it?
Angarak
If the wifi driver is an exe file right click and "run as administrator". Failing that, open a CMD prompt with Admin permissions and run: sfc /scannow ...to see if there are any system file errors. If SFC (system file checker) find errors but cant fix them you'll need to look at running DISM (google it) to check and restore health.
