markssupra
Hi all, just looking for opinions on the options available when using a Syvecs ecu. Looking at getting one soon but can't decide which is better. What I understand is Toucan is designed for the Syvecs and permanently wired in. Tablet will need a Bluetooth adapter for the syvecs and the app installed. Discuss
Chris Wilson
Basic analogue dial for oil pressure and a wide band O2 readout, then a data logger for all that you can imagine. Caveat, I have some 1 gig high end GEMS loggers from WRC cars for sale. Does GPS mapping as well, can bus to the SYVECS. Not expensive....
JamieP
Toucan, I had the bluetooth kit and never liked it really.
j_jza80
Another vote for Toucan. Wasn't really a fan until I had one fitted, which I only went for in the end as it was a lesser evil over having gauges plastered everywhere. But it's a fantastic bit of kit, and with some creativity, doesn't have to look 'stuck on' to the dash. Lets you know what's going on, easy selection of maps & trac settings etc, plus the immobiliser is great if you have it set up with pin protection. drift_bear
Another for toucan aswell, just give the dash a more stock look as its only a small screen
el_bandido
I'm going a different route - arduino canbus translator and then android dash. Might not work out, but it's all wired and it will allow me to add custom sensor stuff to the arduino and feed directly into the tablet. The only reason I'm doing this over a toucan is because I like tinkering with stuff. I asked a reputable source about the Bluetooth option and was advised to go with a toucan display. C12MMO
If it helps you decide I'm just about to sell my brand new bluetooth adapter for £250 as I have opted for the Toucan instead. I opted for the toucan as I have a habit of smashing iPads and iPhone screens.
markssupra
Great response thank you all! I was leaning more towards getting a Toucan over a tablet, but always good to hear first hand experience from other members.
j_jza80
Just a warning about the Toucan though, the screens reflect glare terribly, so try and angle it to avoid that.
el_bandido
Could you not get some satin film like they use for phone screens?
j_jza80
It is already satin, for some reason if even a little light hit the screen it glares up and becomes illegible.
Luxluc
I love my toucan. Great to monitor all in one

Not if you mount it in the bottom right of the dash by ignition switch rather than middle console. Mine is great and never get any glare. Go for the toucan over the Bluetooth module all day long mate.
j_jza80
Looks stuck on in that position though I'd rather have the glare to be honest. Think I might be able to fabricate a thing wedge for it to mount on angle the screen slightly down while keeping the look.
C12MMO
That's exactly where I'm having mine mounted.
Luxluc
Tbh, I don't look at it a lot. It gives alarms in case something ain't right.

Syvecs haven't got my oem gear display working yet, so I rely on the Toucan gear display at the moment
Sheefa
Lee suggested having mine mounted on right side of dash for the sole purpose of avoiding glare. To be honest who cares what the passengers see, they have a grab handle and that's all they're entitled to
