Dnk
Anyone here do this ? looking for some advice or recommendations We're looking at getting 60 sq metres of shared drive done. It does get a fair bit of vehicle traffic and having had 2 quotes i'm not convinced doing an overlay is the way to go which was suggested by the first company First quote was £1600 to overlay with 5 year guarantee or £2440 to dig it up and do the base and the top 10 year guarantee, personally though my feeling wasn't great with this company and think the guarantee is pretty worthless to be honest The second company said they could do an overlay but wouldn't put any guarantee on the job and wanted £2600 or £3600 to do the base and top which would get a 10 year guarantee The surface has lots of cracks and several areas where the top layer has gone
peter richards
dig it up mate , how thick will the overlay be, probably the same as whats there about an inch or less , warm weather and as you say it gets used wont last long , more money but better job , ask how thick the tarmac will be if they dig it up , and the fill underneath, you see so many rip offs with driveways so be carefull
Dnk
I wont be using the first company, wanted cash no invoice so pretty sure the guarantees are pure BS The second company is local and does a lot of work in the area, i'd much rather be using them at the moment, he was pretty honest and answered all my questions regarding what he would be doing. Annabella
You see what happens when the Highways bodget and scarpers 'fix' the potholes with a bit on top and how long does that last?
Chris Wilson
These bloody neighbours with great heavy old Range Rovers, knackering up our shared drive.... A top skim is just Any drive is only as good as its foundations. I did a gateway width extension to get my 18 tonner in more easily and dug it all out and did the foundation, and got a pro in to do the Tarmac bit. It was still expensive... http://www.chriswilson.tv/gates/gates.html
Dnk
I blame Tescos home deliveries for the problem as they hoon up the drive to deliver to the next door neighbour. Definitely not me in my Range If the drive is done properly and dug up then we'll have to seriously look at replacing the retaining wall on the right hand side as that's going to be the weak link along with the sections around the lawns and at the front edge where it meets the footpath
