She hasnt passed her test yet and does'nt seem to be in any hurry to do it. But I mentioned to her I may buy a car and she said that would be the push for her to get out there and get her licence.

My max budget is around 3k but not the slightest idea of what to get really. I like the idea of this

what are your thoughts guys.

I should say she is now 31 so hopefully insurance shouldnt be too much of an issue. The car also has to be something I wont mind driving and beeing seen in. So pink soft top micras are a no no im afraid lol.

If she's not bothered about passing her test unless you buy her a car, and the car also has to be something you would want to drive, then why not consider buying yourself a second car and just adding her as a named driver? Who will be paying the running costs? If it is you then it may as well be your car ;)

I think you may at a push be able to get a MK1 MX5 as a 1st car depending on the age of driver and the age of the car (classic policy cover).

I have a nice Fiat Seicento 1.1 sitting here ;) inbetweeners yellow too!

Yea that was my plan. I'm just thinking of something fun for a year and then moving onto something sensible later one when we start trying for kids.

I've been looking at kia ceed's, corsa's 1 series bmw's etc but can't make my mind up

We had a new Ceed from mrs's work and theyre ok, tinny, boot feels like it'll drop off everytime its closed, wouldn't pay £16000 for a new one ever! Problem is the cars in that range are a bit boring, so I know your dilemma. Friend of mine bought a 07 Merc e class 1.9 petrol Kompressor, wasnt expensive, think £5,500 low mileage and was quick enough for everyday and loads of room in the back for impending family. It was a good compromise for something he classed as good instead of £15000 on something a bit boring.
