So hi all 1st post in this section.

i have just got a L reg NA and after drivig the 60 odd miles back i noticed the passanger side low beam and fog lights had died, now i stright away thougth ahh bulbs just gone but both bulbs were fine :s

Next i saw that ther is a fuse for the LHS and RHS lights so again even though the rear passanger lights where on i checked the fuse and it was fine again confused :s

So by this point it is 10pm its dark its a tomorrow job but behold on the 2 mins trip home the they magically come back to life! so yea thought great will go out for the rest of the evening!

Upon entering london i noticed that they had gone out again and have stayed that way since saturday night.

Yesterday i tried checkign the connector and lookign for any obvious signs of damage to the cable but cant see anythign wrong at all :(

Soooo my question is has this happened to any one before?

Do we think it may be a trapped cable?

Bad earth?

whats the best way to chase the loom for the light? does it go stright to the fuse box or down the side of the engine bay or down into the wing?

Any help be much appreciated!

I would unplug them and check the connectors terminals for corrosion. Then check the common earth to the body for rust and generally clean it up. If it still does it, it could be the contacts in the column stalks are worn out (unlikely). I had a bulb in the van recently drop out and a thumping it fixed it. It eventually died completely and was a blown bulb, it maybe both elements are on their way out. If all else fails, check for loom damage.

Yea i checked the terminals i even swapped the bulb from side to side to check it was not the bulb.

Where would i find the common earth located at? Surely i would of thought that if the earth is faulty other ligth etc would be going out/not working?

Im doubting the stalk as the drivers side works fine so think we can rule that one out.

And yep i tried the old give it a thump trick to no avail even tried the "bounce the shit out of the car to see if it comes back again no joy)

So yea im hoping we dont get to the checkign the loom part =(

Are they stock or HID's bud? If they're HID's it's very common, probably a ballast gone and cheap to replace.

I am 99.9% sure they are still stock bulbs and have checked they aint blown.

Also i dont think they fog lights would also go out if its indeed a HID ballast?

Why keep the remedy a secret?

haha i was on the train so was only a quick post. so in the end i pulled the wing off so i could get a clear look at the loom and found a single pinched wire!

so i replaced the bad section turned the light on and wham! illumination! also found that halfords bulbs need a slight modification to fit too!
