Tricky-Ricky
This one is driving me nuts, it started cutting out so did all the usual, checked the fuel delivery from tank etc, then rebuilt and cleaned the carb, twice! the second time it dropped the idle, but ut still does the same thing...runs for about a minute and dies, so to me that says fuel starvation, the primer/pump bulb stay full of fuel and not running dry, the fuel lines are not blocked, and the diaphragms in the carb look fine, anyone had these sort of symptoms and managed to cure it? Style
Absolutely no experience with these so purely spit-balling in case something helps. Maybe something in the wire/blade assembly that's putting extra load on the engine and causing it to cut out? Similar way to stopping a car in gear? Does it cut out if you keep the revs above idle? Spark plug in good nick? Transfer port clear?
6speedmark
Is it stihl ??? If do carb is always place to start- there is a vhs cow it could be the igniter unit
peter richards
right here goes , sounds the same as mine , mine is an echo strimmer , anyway going great last year this year nope starts but then cuts out , replaced all fuel lines replaced the gaskets and seals either side of the carb cleaned the carb replaced the carb with a new one still the same . so finally took it to a repair shop and he checked everything id done and all was spot on . oh and i checked the exhaust side sometimes it can get clogged but it was clear. the only thing he said is its sucking in air from somewhere and the chances of him finding it is slim . so unfortunatelly its knackered
peter richards
bought a strimmer from lidles for £129 , got a disc , string , hedge cutter and chainsaw attatchment . plus a 3 year guarantee , so if it breaks ill take it back . rather than throw any more money at the echo
Al Massey
Have you put in two stroke oil?
Tricky-Ricky
Have you put in two stroke oil? LOL! Thanks guys....stripped and cleaned the carb for the fourth time, and in now seems to be working, so i obviously managed to dislodge whatever miniscule piece of crap that was blocking something, so fingers crossed i don't end up doing it again, it has been faultless for the last three years, so i guess i cant complain too much.....back to my favourite job...grass cutting:rolleyes:

My two stroke chainsaw needs two stroke oil added to fuel for it to work properly
Tricky-Ricky
It was a genuine question. My two stroke chainsaw needs two stroke oil added to fuel for it to work properly Sorry, its because the only two strokes that i know of that don't require an oil premix are some of the Japanese bikes that have a separate oil tank and mix oil in operation. RobUK
Spark plug is always a source of problem on 2 stroke!
Tricky-Ricky
Thanks, but it was fuel starvation due to a blockage in the carb, it started fine just wouldn't stay running for long. But yes two stroke plugs can foul easy due to the amount of oil in the mix.
