Elliot
Just gone outside to warm the car. Turned the alarm on, then off, and then turned the key in the ignition. I did this twice. The first two times it made a funny sound (one loud click) like the battery was dead, then cut power instantly, even to the interior lights etc. The third time, the engine started first time no problems. What could it be? Straightaway I thought dead battery, but can't imagine why it would start a third time like that with no problems? Could it possibly be a problem with the starter motor? I'm not sure if I'm imagining it or not, but the alarm key fob seemed to be stuck in, so maybe it's that. Going to pop out for a drive now & see how it goes, anyone had similar problems? magicmatty
Similar thread, this or last week I think...mine runs a couple of alarm LED's and if left for a week or more, it clicks for a couple of time, then bursts into life ok.? ? ? Never does it again, unless I dont start it for a while again (week or so)
Pixelfill
Mine does the same if it's been left for a week or so. Pleased to hear that this is normal, I thought I was going to have to get a new battery. Is there anything I can do to minimise the drain. dangerous brain
I know it sounds stupid but is it a dodgy solenoid lol. I'm sure that on start up all other power to the car is stopped because the start circuit needs all available power. You don't normally see this though as mostly the car kicks over straight away. Elliot
I drove it last night for about an hour, after not having driven it for around a week, but have left it longer before and that hasn't happened... I just went to go out for a quick drive, but there are some very funny noises occuring! One of the belts sounds very loose, neat the front of the engine bay, and there is a loud ticking nearer the back of the engine bay. Inside, there sounds like there's a moth flying around the dash, just above the right air-con fan (by keys) I can't see a thing as it's pitch black, so will have to have a more detailed check tomorrow. Gutted. The clock's reset as well...

Not sure, I've just started it again no problem first time. I've never had any problems starting the car first time with just the key (whereas some other cars I've had to give it some pedal as well!) A dodgy solenoid would be a relief considering the other noises it's making! Incidentally, where should I be checking if that was the case? dangerous brain
I dunno but sticky solenoids sound bloody awful. Really nasty loud clicky rasping noises.
TrickTT
sounds like the solenoid to me - had the same problem last week. Hope it is anyway, its a cheap easy fix
Matt Harwood
A dodgy solenoid won't cause the car to lose power to the interior light or reset the close. I'd guess it's loose battery terminals.
Soonto_HAS_soop
or reset the close. Reset the what now?

Terminator
A dodgy solenoid won't cause the car to lose power to the interior light or reset the close. I'd guess it's loose battery terminals. Take the clamps off the battery, clean them and the posts with emery paper and apply copper grease and tighten. Matt Harwood
It kills power to non-essentials connected to the 'Acc'essory line yes, but not the interior light and clock. I think Toyota considered that re-setting the clock after every start-up could become quite tiresome
