Guest Grim-91
Hey everyone I have a faulty ECU for my series 1 N/A Toyota Supra manual 5 speed, I have another ECU which looks like it should match most of the numbers on them match there is just one that doesn't. I would like some one who has experience with ECUs to tell me for sure whether it should work or if i have to find one that matches perfectly. I have tried uploading pictures of both ECUs that I have however they don't seem to upload. The numbers that don't match are on my original ECU is 175700-4771 New ECU 175700-4772 And next to this number it has 12V on both ECU hopefully that helps if anyone has any information please do share or if you can tell me how to upload images that would make diagnosing much easier. Thanks for all your help.
Mike2JZ
The numbers you mentioned are not the part numbers for the ECU. Most likely just the revision number as suggested in this thread So long as they both say 2JZ-GE, plug the sucker in and see if it does the job. I've swapped in a few 2JZGE ECU's into mine for diagnosis purposes and never had an issue
Guest Grim-91
I have swapped them and it didn't work the idle kept jumping from 1000rpm to 2000rpm every 2 seconds and also the diagnostic mode on my OBD I stops working with the other ECU in. Thats why I am posting this maybe the second ECU is faulty but I have pulled it apart and it looks ok.
Mike2JZ
Ok, lets rewind a second here. What are the issues you are trying to resolve by putting in a new ECU? Did putting in the new ECU cause the idle revs to jump, or was this happening already? Are we talking about a manual or automatic na? Guest Grim-91
Its a manual N/A and with the original ECU in, it has issues running with the aircon on as the ECU has a blown capacitor and resistor it always goes to stall among other things with the other ECU which is out of a newer supra same series though the idle is jumping no matter what and the diagnostic mode doesn't work. I originally thought it was because the new ECU was out of an OBD II car and mine is OBD I.
Mike2JZ
Hmm can't say I've ever put in an ecu that's been from a facelift NA running OBDII, all my tests have been with prefacelift running OBDI. Perhaps there is a compatibility issues between them. I might be wrong, but I seem to remember that facelift NA's that use ODBII also use a MAF sensor rather than a MAP sensor? This could be the reason why idle is all over the place? Perhaps another member can confirm if they have tried this combo successfully or not. Mike2JZ
Actually if you post up the part number of the second ECU you have, that should help in finding what sort of supra it came from
Guest Grim-91
The part number is the one under the word "Toyota" correct? it is 89661-14610 and it is the same for both ECUs if you tell me how to upload pictures I can post pics of them both. Mike2JZ
The part number is the one under the word "Toyota" correct? it is 89661-14610 and it is the same for both ECUs if you tell me how to upload pictures I can post pics of them both. Upload to an image hosting site like Imgur if you can't figure out how to use the forum image host. Also that ECU part number was only used on j-spec non turbo prefacelift & facelift models. So it should be working with MAP sensor and OBDI, only the US spec NA supra's come with the other setup. If we are assuming that the second ECU is in working condition then I can't really think of why diagnostic port would not be working, unless you have a dodgy earth somewhere. As for idle rev jumping I would check over TPS/IACV with a multimeter as specified in repair manual. Follow this by checking for vacuum leaks and correct VSV operations (also specified in repair manual). Or if easier, find someone with a known working ECU, hot swap them over and see if you still have issues.
Guest Grim-91
I will try connecting it again and check TPS and IACV but they are working fine with the original ECU and there is no apparent reason for the new ECU to not work there is no damage or anything like that. I don't know anyone in the area with a Supra so unlikely that I will be able to test with a known working ECU and I will keep trying with the pictures as the more information I give the more likely we are to finding a solution. Thanks for your help so far.
Guest Grim-91
Turns out the new ECU has a blown capacitor on it as well going to send it back and get my money back for it and source another one hopefully that will be in working condition.
