How detailed do you describe modifications

Not a long time till my renewal will be coming round so just for the purpose of getting quotes I was just wondering how detailed you really need to describe your modifications..... I have declared mods on mine as the company are aware of the car but just wondering when ringing around if for example declaring it as a single turbo conversion for engine upgrade, a full body kit for body modifications and a custom interior for other mods which in a basic description is what has been done would suffice as obviously if I was to describe in detail the full list of broken down changes plus supporting mods then the list would be massive and they would probably want to charge me extra for the labour time of how long they were talking to me on the phone lol.

In your case I'd do some research on a few that will touch modified ones and focus on these. I'd even be tempted to ask them almost straight away how they want you to declare modifications.

Years and years ago I had a policy on a modified mini and they asked for mod's and pics, I can't believe more insurance companies don't, a picture is worth a thousand words as they say, but I've never had to do that since.

My agreed value had everything listed, pictures usually 6, Front, Rear, Sides Interior, Boot etc.

Then receipts of all the parts, their value and a total at the end, that is the agreed value you should ask for. The ultimate cost of replacing your car like for like, thats what agreed value is, not market value.

This would be done with a letter etc after the fact, not over the phone. usually an insurance company will send out the forms for a agreed value etc.

Ahh ok thanks mate il see if I can find out the favored companies for this and contact them about it, picture is a great idea too

Thats a good point actually I was just thinking market value but like you say you wouldn't necessarily be able to replace like for like from market value, dread to think how much iv actually spent on it so will have to give the value a thought as iv got no idea lol, totally agree pictures would be great in this case I hadn't thought of that until Scooter mentioned it above aswell

Mines a stock auto TT aero (apart from the wheels/body work + engine dress) and agreed value at 20k

So as long as you can prove what you've spent and what it would cost to replace like for like, they should agree it.

Thanks mate yeah photo's would be the best way for me to prove this I think as quite alot of the parts I used were bought off the forum and alot of the labour done mself too (with the exception of bodywork etc) so is hard to show in receipts.

Yeah well worth 20k as condition would have to come into it and I remember from wroxhall last year it is mint, you coming again this weekend?

Sky provide a modifications form where you list all mods and the current power level.

Ahh ok thanks yeah I will approach them too for a quote :)

I just say full body kit, after market colour, lowered (coilovers) aftermarket wheels

Engine

aftermarket exhaust, air filter and intercooler and inform them the engine up in power and that's it

I wont mention all the polished and gold parts as there still the OEM parts and I don't bother about inside as its just the original painted dash.

thanks mate yeah thats where I was unsure as technically 75% of my interior is standard its just been re-trimmed in red leather so didn't know if it was something to mention but I suppose it adds value so is probably worth me saying and sending pics

I declare everything that isn't OEM on the car.

I also add in new parts added and when as this assists with increasing the value of the car for agreed valuations. Although I seem to be seriously undervaluing my car. I only have an agreed value of £17,500 for my car yet people are getting this for a TT 6 spd stock import.

Mine would cost considerably more to build if it required replacing.

I'll PM you a copy of my report this evening when I get back from work.
