Chris Evans quits top gear

Just watched last nights episode there and I've noticed Chris Evans has just quit. I don't even think they need to replace him as Le Blanc and chris Harris could do a good job leading it.

From BBC

Chris Evans has announced he is leaving his role as a presenter on Top Gear after one series.

He tweeted: "Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that's not enough.

"I feel like my standing aside is the single best thing I can now do to help the cause.

His resignation comes after falling ratings for the show - which hit a series low on Sunday night, with an average of 1.9 million viewers.

Evans joined Top Gear after last year's departure of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

Clarkson was fired from the show after he punched a producer following a row about the provision of food late at night while filming on location.

Evans was later signed up to front the new series alongside with former Friends actor Matt LeBlanc.

Perry McCarthy, the original Top Gear Stig, told the BBC: "It's sad for Chris but personally I was expecting such an announcement, I wasn't expecting it this quickly but I did think that Chris would step down from it.

"Chris is an enormously popular radio presenter and TV show host but he hasn't quite gelled with this show, he's not really gelling with the viewers.

"It must be a little bit painful for him to receive this reaction from everybody and I don't think he'd want to continue, I probably wouldn't want to continue if I was getting constant criticism either."

Writing on Twitter, Evans said he would continue with his other BBC commitments, including presenting the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show.

"Full steam ahead then with Radio 2, CarFest, Children In Need, 500 Words and whatever else we can dream up in the future," he said.

In a statement released via the BBC, Evans added: "I have never worked with a more committed and driven team than the team I have worked with over the last 12 months.

"I remain a huge fan of the show, always have been, always will be."

It is not yet clear whether the other presenters will return for the next series.

Chris Evans leaving is a good start, for me, Eddie Jordan brings nothing to the show and can leave anytime.

Sabine can drive, no doubt about it, I've not seen enough of her presenting to know if she has a future. Rory and Chris are ok, they don't annoy me too much..........

Eddie Jordan is just terrible!! not keen on him on F1 either and thats his 'specialist' field....?

Good on Evans for stepping in though, as certainly big shoes to fill....... shame its not worked out for him as I believe honestly he is a lover of the show and a true car enthusiast too.....

as much as I quite like him, think the show will be better without him....

Thank goodness for that.

Now need to get rid of Jordan, Sabine and Dory.. I mean Rory

I have no idea why anyone has an issue with Rory, he has been the best presenter for me so far with plenty of energy. I think he and CH have carried the show in the last series. Matt Le Blanc is funny but a bit wooden. Wouldn't be sad to see the back of Sabine as I can't tell a word she says and Eddie Jordan is probably the most irritating cnut since thrush was invented.

Surprised he quit so soon,he took a lot of stick when he took over the breakfast show from Terry but he stuck it out and increased listeners.

Can anyone remember how good Clarkson and cronies were in there first series,?be interesting to see if they were good right out the box.

They weren't. There was a spell however where they weren't stuck up their own arses but this was so long ago, it seems forever. People soon forget some of the average dross Clarkson and his two sheep cooked up long after they ran out of ideas.

Funny how the show on Amazon Prime is not subject to viewing figures, so Clarkson cannot really lose this battle. Would be good to see which way the vote would go. I am new Top Gear as I got sick of Clarkson and his inflated opinion of himself about 5 years ago.

Was never a fan of Chris Evans. Felt he was trying too hard all the time.

This is probably true. The pressure obviously got to him. I think I would have been more impressed if he just didn't give a monkeys. He was a dead man walking from day one..!!

Probably accurate, to be fair I have been a fan of Chris Evans since Big Breakfast days. He did come across as trying too hard but lets be honest people that were fans of the old TG were never going to accept anyone that came into the new show.

Rory and Harris have been the best 2 presenters. Jordan is just plain irritating. Sabine is ok but maybe she should replace the Stig as the Stig persona is getting a bit boring now.

Still maintain that a good line up would be Button and Coulthard.

Fair enough, I just remember him from his YouTube Channel which sucked massively. He had an "attitude" on that show and while he isn't like it on Top Gear I cant see him in a different light. He nailed it on the head a couple of episodes ago when he said I am a failed YouTuber which is now doing this Job (in which he was saying he was lucky).

Yes he is far better than Chris but I think still does not have the right style... maybe its distorted on my part.

Chris harris I have always found to be pretty wooden, his performances neither make me happy or annoyed they are just... Yeah... and done well I may add, he would fit right in on 5th Gear but I am glad he is on Top Gear. I wouldnt change CH.

Sabine well yes she can drive but she is annoying.. Eddie well I dont have a clue why he is on it, only the fact the BBC promised him a contract and as they lost the F1 coverage needed to fullfill his contract buy adding him in (thats a guess).

As we're playing 'fantasy top gear' I'll throw 3 names into the mix that I think could 'play well' on the show!

Vin Diesel

Mark Webber

Rowan Atkinson

The thought of Rowan atkinson hammering round the track in an Ariel Atom, pulling the faces that he does, has got me chuckling already :)
