wrighty338
Hi Looking to purchase a late supra with VVTI and give it a little love but im a complete toyota noob so hoping someone can give me some quick pointers before i get started... I would be looking to stay on stock internals - heard these 2JZ can take pretty big figures 'reliably' anything from 700hp to 900? How true can this be given most cars at 16+ years old now Is there a single best way to convert a twin turbo to single? ie a specific kit to go for? Iv always built my turbo cars with the fastest spooling blowers to make peak power as soon as it can in the rev range - so i wouldnt be looking for a huge 70mm turbo or anything Obviously fueling must be taking in account - what upgrades are required for single turbo conversions? pump/FPR are obvious do injectors need an upgrade? not looking for huge power though How about a clutch - are there any "go to" nice clutches for street driving? Whats the deal if i cant find a TT manual? Are TT autos a pig to convert and how much would we be looking at for this sort of conversion? Cheers everyone
Sheefa
A lot of questions there mate and it would take a good hour to answer them all. Search button here is your friend. Stock engine is reportedly good for 700-750bhp providing in healthy order with regular oil change and service intervals. However, I wouldn't say necessarily reliable as you rightly state these cars are getting older and big power is likely to aggravate niggling problems and trigger new ones. That said plenty of people run this kind of power through the stock block with good results and drive ability. A single conversion will set you back anywhere between £6k-£10k depending on whether you're doing it yourself, using second hand or new parts, how far you go in terms of spec etc etc. The basics are turbo, manifold, fuelling, ECU, wastegates, intercooler, etc. Theres a lot to list. Personally I would go with one of the SRD kits as per here. They're brilliant for the money and will get you off to a flying start. The Precision Turbo units spool extremely quickly and make peak power well before the older larger style 70/72mm units. http://srdtuning.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=60_64_84&product_id=130 Go for the PE6266 journal which is good for 700bhp at a very reasonable cost. Re fuelling you will need a better pump like a Walbro 485 or possibly twin pumps depending power goals, definitely bigger injectors like the ASNU 1000cc or you could go for some Sard 850ccmor similar drop ins. You'll need to check condition of stock fuel lines and refresh or upgrade if they're deteriorated. I believe stock lines are good for around 700 too. Yes you'll need a FPR like Aeromotive or similar. Clutch depends again on power. Spec or RPS 6 puck clutches are OK and hold good power or go all out with a carbon clutch or HKS LA twin or similar. Entirely depends on your budget. To convert an Auto to Manual you'll need a full 6spd conversion and the going rate alone for just the gearbox, if you can find one, is circa £4-5k. I'd stick with the auto if I were you and go single. The auto gearbox in a supra is brilliant and with a few oil coolers, again SRD can supply, it'll be able to take big power. Hope that helps. Again search through the forum and you'll find plenty of info. Greg

Sheefa
cheers Greg, nice example you have there btw Thanks mate, not finished yet as upgrading pretty much everything! Going for around 850fwhp. Car is being done by SRD. Highly recommend mate
jcbt
As above but if your auto you will need to figure in another £3k+ for a built auto-box if you want any power above 600. Again SRD can sort you out or you can look at Titan/Boostlogic but if you go second hand they can be a bit unreliable.
Hitbox Junkie
SRD kits. As said abobe budget for 5 to 10k engine would need to be good condition. 6speeds are around 5k alone and that's 2nd hand. There are other options like a t500 5speed no one on here has done it yet but someone is working on everything and possibly a future kit to sale. Must have I would say for single turBo is a standalone ecu. Auto supra is awesome.

supra_ufo
Really? this is the first im hearing that auto boxes are good im surprised If you are from Yorkshire take a trip to Squires cafe in Sherburn Leeds on the First Tuesday of July (5th). Usually there are a few Supras that turn up, and most of the guys are very knowledgeable, Al Massey should be there and he owns a single turbo 6 speed aero. I wont be there this month though got a date with Beyonce As for single turbo dont jump in it, I would just do alot of reading on here first before making your decision. If you like to tinker then have a look at the Supra Chat thread started by a lad called "berg" I personally would go down that route if you are on a tight budget, he sourced alot of parts from the states. If you have the money then SRD is defo worth it as their work is great Edited June 30, 2016 by supra_ufo (see edit history)
Big Supes
Get used to it around these parts. People who actually own auto Supras rate them. They're surprisingly very good.
Frank Bullitt
As you're Yorkshire based Chris Wilson is closer if you are looking for someone to take very good care of your car. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/member.php?54-Chris-Wilson
Sheefa
Really? this is the first im hearing that auto boxes are good im surprised I've had an auto and 2 manuals previously mate. Auto is a blinding box and totally underrated. Yes I prefer the manual personally but please do try the auto, it's savage on kick down.
