Single turbo not coming online

Hello,

Bit of help/advice. Just fitted and plumbed in my single setup but not sure when the boost should come in. Took it for a quick test roundt He block but didn't really get over 4K revs. Being a little careful as I've just fitted it. I have not yet fitted the injectors or ecu as this will be done when it goes for mapping in the next month. The turbo is a Greddy t88 and I have a blitz dsbc and could do with some advice on what settings it should be on. Or should I just remove this for now.

Cheers in advice for any replies

I'm not sure re the controller but I'm pretty sure that turbo makes boost/power late/at high revs. So it may be plumbed in fine but also hard to check as they also come on strong when they do get going which is bad news with no injectors or ecu!

Is it making any boost at all? The sensible thing is to get it to someone who can fit the essentials and map it, you are currently driving a hand grenade! Do you have any boost cut on the car? Low psi waste gate Spring?

Seems to make 0.1/.2 boost up to 4K. Didn't plan on driving hard until mapped but also wanted to make sure is was in good working order when it went to mappers to save time.

If it's not mapped, and you haven't even fitted the injectors or ecu - I wouldn't even try to get it on boost.

But, the t88 is known to be a laggy turbo. What made you choose this, over some of the much more efficient models?

That is a proper dinosaur of a turbo, it will have a very narrow powerband up the top of rev range.

Do not try and get any boost out of it until the injectors and fueling are sorted unless you want a rebuild too ;)

Keron had the whole kit on a deal and fancied a project. Thought I would give it a go as it was my first single. Is there other turbos that fit that manifold that you would recommend for the future.

Cheers for advice, will get on the blower tomorrow to get it booked in. Would you think I'm alright driving it if I take it easy. Need to get it I the mappers.

Do you have an wideband AFR gauge installed?

If its on stock injectors and ECU you can in theory drive off boost while being careful, ideally you would have injectors and ECU installed with a safe basemap.

Yeah I do have a wideband afr fitted. What readings should I look for?

If your off boost it should be cruise AFRs and will bounce around a bit.

Will be richer on warm up and should settle around 14.7 for idle, maybe leaner, not seen a stock motor for a long time :D

Cheers for the advice, just looking forward to getting it setup property.

A t88 will still be spooling from now until next week. You should really replace it with something else

Just got this one so will give it a go first before getting another. It was in good condition so took a chance as I don't have much knowledge or an exact setup/plan in mind. Needed something to keep me busy. But as I said in a previous post if there are any turbos that fit that manifold that you recommend be my guest to let me know.

Cheers

As long as its a T4 flange almost anything should fit it bud. I hear the precision gen2 stuff is unbelievable. Fast spool and will deliver 800+ bhp. Lee at SRD should be able to give you more information on it

Good to know, I just checked out t4 dimensions and measured up the old turbo gasket I have in the house. Seems it is T4. Would that mean you can straight swap for other turbos? What about the downpipe dimensions?

Yea as long as it has a T4 flange it should be a straight fit. You might get the odd issue with a massive compressor housing fouling something but that is usually solvable by rotating it.

Downpipes are usually built to spec but for the most part it should just be a straight swap providing the flange is the same i.e 3"/ 4" v band or 4 bolt flange - not sure which your t88 has. Most turbos are vband now. But making up a downpipe is a really simple job for any fabricator worth his salt :)
