neo1
6 spd J-spec TT 1995 Hi all, can anyone tell me exactly how the prop shaft carrier is meant to sit.... The carrier between the gearbox and the diff..... This has two bolts holding it, when i took them out, one had two washers (one very thick and one normal) and the other just had one normal.... I can't remember which way round these go..... The brackets they mount to on the chassis are at slightly different heights. Please could someone post a PDF or a photo so i know what way round they go.... It seems very crytical as it alters where the prop shaft sits in relation to the drive tunnel and could possibly throw the alignment out. merckx
I've just been looking on the EPC. On the diagram only the washer on the nearside of the car is labelled for some reason. It's actually available in different thicknesses 2,4,6 and 8.5mm. This must mean that the thickness was adjusted to align the propshaft. This would allow for the fact that the cars aren't completely identical and you couldn't simply fit it the same way as it is on another Supra. I might be wrong but I can't think of any other reason for the washer being available in different thicknesses. On the EPC they are sold in packs of 2. Surely this would mean you use one on each side. I would put one standard washer on each side and use the thicker one to compensate for the varying height of the support bracket. neo1
Yep, it is the nearside that has a slightly shorter mounting bracket so it would make sense.... However, this puts the prop shaft slightly to one side (mm's out) I have fitted another washer of the same size and it has balanced it out and also made the prop shaft align along the horazontal as well as the vertical.... This seems to be more correct as the prop shafts universal joint is running nice and straight. However, this could be totally wrong as sometimes things are meant to run at funny angles.... Does anyone know if there should DEFINATELY be one thick washer on one side yen NOTHING on the other side. I will post a couple of clear pictures later on so people know what i am ranting on about. neo1
Arrrggghhhh.... Camera is not working Does anyone have photos of the bracket on their car ? Or tell me what way round it is on their car ? This washer setup is a pain.... Im sure it has to be just right or the shaft is not aligned correctly. Chris Wilson
Normally there is a thick washer between the bracket and the bodyshell on both sides.
neo1
Normally there is a thick washer between the bracket and the bodyshell on both sides. See, this is exactly what i thought.... Yet so many people have come up with other ideas.... You can even see where they have marked the bodyshell in the past.... I am going with you on this one Chris..... It makes far more sense... I just think one of my ones was missing in the first instance.
merckx
If you can buy these washers in variable thicknesses I think it would mean that all cars aren't the same. What other reason would there be?
