Stonkin
Just bought myself a Sony 4k ultra HD 3D TV. I had a feeling for a while that my aerial may not be very good as my old TV (Samsung 1080p HD Ready) used to lose a few channels occasionally. After tuning the new TV yesterday I have noticed that I am not picking up any HD channels, just the normal. Is it possible that the aerial on my roof is suffering from a weak signal or perhaps maybe not up to the job as far as receiving HD channels? If this is the case, what options do I have, ie, new aerial for the roof? can I buy a good aerial that can plug directly into the tv but just be by the window? Any ideas welcome, thanks
suprasurrey
We used to have terrible picture quality a few years ago. I cured it with a new aerial fitted higher up the side of the house, some low loss coaxial cable and a signal booster. I bought a signal strength meter to help align the aerial for optimal reception, I`d be happy to lend it to you if that would help.
Stonkin
That's a nice offer thank you very much, I will bare it in mind I also have a signal booster currently. if that is off then even my normal channels go very blocky and unwatchable. Think it may be a new or realigned aerial.

Think it may be a new or realigned aerial. That`s exactly what mine used to be, all blocky and sometimes it would just freeze. Getting the aerial as high as possible will really help. I think I extended the pole on ours and got the aerial 4 feet higher.
aaronssupra
Make sure you have chosen the correct region after full scan in the drop down menu, if it gives you the option. The region should correspond to where your Aerial is pointing. Check here with your postcode for best transmitters in your area http://www.digitaluk.co.uk click the detailed view button. You can check the signal strength and signal quality in your tv setting menu. try your aerial lead direct into the tv and bypass tv amplifier. http://www.1st-evans.co.uk
Big Mark
I raised my ariel about 5 foot higher and it made a massive difference. Tho I still get a few issues. I did consider getting one of these to get it really high. http://www.screwfix.com/p/labgear-29924lab-3m-aerial-mast/32094
Chris Wilson
At the 500 or so MHz the digital TV channels operate on cable loss is a major issue. It's DEFINITELY worth changing the co-ax to low loss quality stuff, that's actually not that easy to find as the sellers know most people buy on price per metre only. A quality, branded mast head pre amp will help in poor signal areas. Some regions may be able to get signals from 2 different transmitters, and the aerial may be pointing at the weaker one. Re-tuning will certainly be needed if you aim at a different transmitter. A signal strength meter is far better than screaming from the roof top "How's the picture now our Brendan?".
