TRD Steering wheel from ebay missing airbag firing module

Recommended Posts

Bought a TRD steering wheel from a seller on ebay in need of a refurb but now it's here it's clear to see it's missing the module that fires the airbag.

Does anyone know if this part is available on it's own or is the whole airbag unit scrap?

I've raised a refund request at present but am curious if it's salvageable. Is there an alternative wheel that uses the same unit?

He claims the wheel is exactly how he took it out of the car. Plus it was shipped from Malaysia using Fed-Ex but parcel arrived unopened so wasn't removed during shipping by the looks of it.

I'm concerned about

A) can a replacement module be sourced

B) if so is it safe

c) Or should I just send it back for a refund.

Surprised it got through, things like airbags which contain explosives are prohibited to post for obvious reasons. He took it out so it wouldn't deploy whilst in transit but he should have told you that.

I got a stock steering wheel sent via post for the GTR with the airbag and etc still fitted, its actually ok for sending iirc

I have one of those air bag bangers, pm me an offer I can't refuse.

Is it 100% the correct one for the TRD wheel? Don't suppose you have the wires too?

No idea about what they're worth tho...............If you have a price in mind PM me it please.

I'd just refurb it and it without the module, if the airbag went off on a trd wheel you wont get a replacement

A) I quite like the safety factor of having an airbag just in case. Fair point tho about getting a replacment, but if I have an incident where the airbag's gone off I reckon replacing the steering wheel airbag will be the least of my issues.

B) Won't I get a warning light if I don't?

You could possibly have the airbag go off unessesarily at low speed, remove the bulb;)

The mounting points for the pyro charger on the TRD wheel look the same as a 4 spoke oem wheel mounting points, dont see why it wont bolt on then wire up with the oem connectors...ive played about with pyros from supras and id say you could be in for a chance with the 4 spoke charger :) Its just a charger that blows the bag, nothing special or TRD specfic, think the 3 spoke gen 7 Celica pyros are the same to

Have dug this out of my lock-up and taken several pretty pictures.

However, I have forgotten to bring the camera data lead and I'm not going back for that, so you'll have to take my word on it.

If it helps, there's a bar code sticker on it; Code: FLBP001555 HERST: 2003 and it is complete with linking lead.
