harryww89
Hi Chaps, My car is finally ready for its summerly outings to plenty of UK tracks, but it has recently picked up a high idle after a long run (Hot engine). Generally sticks to 1600rpm and won't budge below. Cold Start is not an Issue, and turning the car on and off resolves the issue to reset the idle. Any ideas what it could be? Or what needs to be cleaned? I assume something around the throttle body area will be sticking when heat has soaked into it? Many thanks for any help Harry
Mike2JZ
TT or NA? Auto/Manual etc?
shaz2010
Have you checked if there is any error codes showing up? Via the paper clip trick. Sounds like a sticky idle control valve !
harryww89
Hi, Car is a single turbo, HKS FCON V Pro, 6 spd. Not checked the paper clip trick, what is this? I assume its a sticky idle control valve but I'm unsure which bit needs to be cleaned? Thanks, Harry
shaz2010
Basically it's using a paper clip to connect (bridge) E1 and Te1 on the diagnostic plug and then turning you ignition 2 clicks, so the dash flashes up and the engine management light will blink the code to you . Blink blink pause for 2 seconds then blink blink blink means error code 23. Found this have a read http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?35920-How-To-Check-the-diagnostics-codes&highlight=Error+code+paper+clip It also has pictures of where the throttle position sensor is, Control valve etc
Wez
I doubt the paperclip diag trick will work with an FCON fitted unless its running as piggyback, shouldn't be since its a 6 speed.
harryww89
I don't think that will work as my engine light is forever flicking on and off, mainly due to the FCON I believe. I'll give it a go, if nothing happens then no harm done. I'll clean out the ICV this weekend and see if that solves the issue.
Wez
Flickering on and off could be brake fluid level.
harryww89
Hi Wez, It's not brake fluid as I change all the fluids every 6 months and I only did this 2 weeks ago. It's done it ever since I had the car from Japan... By flickering, I mean it will come on for a period of time and then disappear. Thanks,
Wez
Has the map been looked at since its been over from Japan? If not I would have someone take a look, to see if the FCON has been setup to trigger the light as a warning

The car doesn't behave any differently when the orange light or red light come on on the dash, they just flicked on and off from time to time. Wez
That's good, I would be asking them why it happens and also mention the high idle
harryww89
It never used to do it Wez, car was absolutley fine before I stored it away for winter. Stored it for 6months under a cover, when I came too all of the galvanised parts in the engine bay had white corroded, so I'm unsure if this has made something stick somewhere. Anyway, i'll clean the ICV this weekend and see if that fixes the issue (Fingers crossed it does)
