jackso11
I have been searching but throttle body and TB bring back far to many results so hopefully someone can answer me quite easily. I bought a polished TB off a member ages ago and have fitted it today, but only just noticed it is modified. The first flap has been removed and the sensors from either side blanked off. My question is at BPU is it worth having a modified TB in this way, and if it is what other supporting mods need to be carried out to make it run well.....or should I put the flap back in from the other TB I have and put the sensors on? Tricky-Ricky
It wont hurt, and you need to do nothing, the TC butterfly gets removed as at rest its slightly off horizontal, and can be a small restriction, although generally not enough to worry about, so it mainly cosmetic. jackso11
oh ok, so not really a gain or loss of any kind? Do I need to do anything with the wiring that will now not be plugged in? Or just leave the plugs tied out the way?
jackso11
I can't get my head around this....its mainly cosmetic....so what is the point of it in the first place if removing it does basically nothing?
inazone
Stops the traction control kicking in. I have removed my butterfly for the tc but left everything plugged in.
jackso11
Ahh...sorry i missed yout 'TC' ref. So its the rubbish Traction control that toyota put on that doesn't seem to do anything at all. In otherwords this TB has had the TC deleted, got it. So what do I do with the wiring? tie it out the way?
jackso11
Now I know what I am searching for (TC mod and not TB) I have found some interesting threads. A few comments stick out to me, can I get anyones opinions on these please.... 'On an auto, I believe you may lose the gear change smoothing effect caused by the sub throttle butterfly closing slightly' 'Removing the trac fuse on a jspec auto speeds up the changes (not as smooth) and disables MANU mode... OD still works tho' In other words....should I put the TC back in this modded polished TB to retain a smoother drive, or is it not really that noticeable? jackso11
or is this not a common thing to do?
Tricky-Ricky
I have heard it said that its used to smooth the auto gear change, however as I have never owned an auto I cant really comment, with my manual one of the first things I did was to pull the trac control relay, after experiencing the std traction control when trying to pull onto a busy roundabout, and being momentarily stranded in front of a truck, I followed this up with removing the butterfly and welding up the resulting holes, and throwing the TC ECU in the bin. jackso11
Seems its fine to do on a manual but not really great on an auto. Think I will be putting it back on. If anyone reading this has a polished TB with the TC still there, and wants to swap with my polished TB with polished TC delete plates pm me. Chris Wilson
If the throttle position sensor has been removed or moved it WILL need setting up properly. If someone has fiddled with the throttle stop screws, the same applies. If the water heating pipes are removed there's a real danger of the throttle freezing partly open on a humid cold winter's day. Personally I strongly advise not to fiddle with the TB at all if all works well, I have spent many a happy hour correcting ones that have been modified so no fault codes are generated, or so a stable idle is maintained.
