Thomas.B
Hi! So I need to upload my catmap so I can get my car MOT'd. Problem is I cannot connect to the ECU. I have a new computer as the old one died, with windows 7 on it. Also the VGA to USB converter cable busted so had to buy a new one. Is windows 7 to new for AEM? I read somewhere that win 95 or something should be used? But I do think I had win 7 on the old computer too. Does anyone have a link to the best working AEM program? I had to download a version from AEM's homepage as the old computer died, looks the same as the one I had though. I have tried to connect through both Serial and USB (I think it is supposed to be Serial, but again several years since I last played around with it) but I cannot choose serial port and in USB mode it cannot connect (says it cant find some aemusb.dll or something like that) ANY help is appreciated! Thanks!
mellonman
Normally you have to set the port you connect to, Can you open the software ? Problem is that the map would be saved to your old computer hard drive iirc

Problem is that the map would be saved to your old computer hard drive iirc I have the map saved to another drive so I have all of them. I can open the software but cannot connect or anything. Do you know where I set the port? Could win7 be the issue? Dont remember if I had XP on the old one but a friend had the same problem to his BMW (but another ecu)
mellonman
I doubt its a win7 issue if you have the win7 aem software , iirc you have to set what port your using in the aem ecu setup page, youtube might have a vid AEM did alot of them to help for such issues
Thomas.B
Oh i THINK i have found the issue, its the bitrate on the usb that needs to be corrected. I'll check this tomorrow and update if it was. If anyone has any other ideas please share
Wez
The original AEM units had a single serial port for control and telemetry when enabled. If telemetry was enabled you only had a couple of seconds from power on to connect with the software before it switched to telemetry. No idea if that is still the same. Chris Wilson
Borrow a laptop with a proper serial port.
