RedM
My car goes in for a Toyota B service on Monday and I'm worried that some little herbert will take it for a test drive. What's the best way to prevent this happening? I'm going to take time/date stamped pics of the mileage. I also have Blackjax but they'll need it in valet mode so that won't stop them. Should I tell the service manager that I don't expect to see any extra miles on it when I get back or is it best to see if it has been used and then try and get a free service out of them. They want the car all day so I can't really wait with it either. Any suggestions?
Soonto_HAS_soop
Stick a piece of masking tape onto the ODO with the mileage it goes in with. Also keep a record of it for yourself. You can also request that your car is not test driven after the work has been carried out on it. For a service I wouldn't of thought it was necessary, all depends on what the "B service" covers...... chazuk
If you have a power fc this can be a neat little trick as you can set the rev limiter to 3,000rpm unplug the commander ,hey presto no joy rides
colsoop
As said above reset the trip computer to 0 and specify to the service manager that no one drive your car.
Faye
As said above reset the trip computer to 0 and specify to the service manager that no one drive your car. I'm probably being thick, but what would stop them resetting the trip? Surely you'd be better having it on a random number.
JustGav
Following on from Faye's comments.... It is also easy to disconnect the odo, so it doesn't count up..... Your best bet is the random number on the trip counter and a stern mention to the service manager.... Gav
supRo
As said above reset the trip computer to 0 and specify to the service manager that no one drive your car. But won't the herbert be able to just reset it again? RedM, you are right in thinking like this as another member had his car smashed by a numpty 'toyota tachnician'. What I've done in the past is have the mileage signed by the service manager, they should be happy to do that. But you should expect that it may go up by 0.X or turn over an additional mile as they move from forecourt to workshop e.t.c
JustGav
You have just given me a cracking idea..... I'm going to build a unit this weekend, which you will simply plug into the car, which will track the car onto a little memory card, and you will be able to see speed and location according to GPS... Would be people be interested in renting something like this if I actually made it... Gav

Guest gzaerojon
you could rig up a shotgun pointing at the drivers headrest and set it for about half a mile you might need a mop and bucket though if they do take it for a spin i would'nt think they'd need to take it out though, what does a B service cover? oil, plugs, filters? RedM
Going to Toyota because I can't find a local place that specialises in Supras. It'll be a one-off and then the car will go back to the garage that was looking after it before I took it over. Might just sit in the passenger seat all day. Gamer
First time (and last) that I used Mr. T was to have my wheel alignment done, the service manger himself manged to ram my front spoiler into something and tore a hole in it and cracked the sides up. Took them over a week to put right and it was a shit job with paint drips and all. Needless to say just because your dealing with the service manager does not mean they won't be a total idiot. RedM
If anyone can recommend a reputable place within a sensible distance of Leeds that can also look at my car on Monday (short notice, I know) then please do. I'd rather that than Toyota TBH but I can't find anyone. Not able to do it myself either.

Gav Yep well best way is if you already have a Sat Nav fitted...as you can set a track on it...and it tells you exactly where its been...erm.....like ....Bristol for instance!!!!!!!! BUT cool idea Gav..almost like having a black box flight recorder in ya car... Thing i'd really like is a camera and MPeg 4 recorder..so will film everything regardless and will wipe it after a few days and start again kind of thing...if you could have a system like this with details printed in corner and maybe even linked to sat nav so you can have coordinates and even street names superimposed that would be an excellent product and I would buy one! Edit just to add could be connected to GSM so you could request still images sent to where ever you are from the car..this is all possible and there are similiar systems already on private yachts.. So Get to work Gav..and invent it...can help you with some contacts if you want!!!
Scooby
If you are runniing a uk spec Soop, all you have to do is disconect the air flow meter, athe the ECU goes into safe mode and wount allow the turbos to spool up!, not sure how you can stop them plugging it back in though. Or the best one is make sure the fuel indecator reads below the empty line then they wont drive it! Brad

Bob
I've never had any problems with Inchcape Toyota in Burton-on-Trent - service is always spot on, prices are reasonable. I used to take the celica there too, and have been a customer for the past 3 years now. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones?

neilg
Mate take it to ART, its down by the old rover garage where B&Q is. He has done loads of work on my car ( plus previous cars) I have also seen him working on many other supras including fitting singles and rewires. He knows what he is doing and is very reasonable with pricing.
RedM
ART? Not sure where you mean. Is it in that industrial area near the canal where you can enter either near to Halfords or up by the Mazda showroom? How much for a typical service?
