Style
Just wondering if I can dig my heels in a little here and get away with it So I got a parking ticket from the council The road outside my flat is being re-laid by the council and I can't get parked anywhere near it at the moment. At one end of the road works is a bus stop. Literally at the Road Closed sign with no junctions around it. It is clearly unusable while the road works are in place but still in an opened stretch of road. So I parked my car on it (along with others) since I can't get near my flat. Got to my car this morning to find a ticket on the windscreen. Now I know I probably shouldn't have parked there and in normal circumstances its a ticket, no questions asked, just pay and be done with it. But do I have a case here? It's marked as a bus stop and the signage is there but if a bus cannot get anywhere near it and is using a diversion, what harm is it doing? The council have occupied my usual parking spot along with a lot of other cars so it's wacky races at the moment.
drift_bear
Is the bus stop signed as not in use/the sign being covered? If not then it is still a working bus stop and will be serviced dude. Ps. FWIW its the council that run the bus stops, not the service operator
Pete
Worth a go. You might get someone reasonable.
ripped_fear
Don't think it will be worth your time TBH. Pay the fine and move on. It is a bus stop after all, although I can see your logic, unfortunately Logic rarely plays a part in local councils brains.
Konrad
If road is closed there should be notice that this bus stop is disused, but this is normally Centro job. Call them and ask them to confirm if this bus stop is in use atm, if they say it is not, then you can argue with council
Style
Thanks for the input chaps. A quick phone call to see if it is at least out of use (definitely is) is worth the punt and go from there. Signs are all still up for it so I'm putting that down to laziness on the councils part. Could also act as ammunition for me
Style
So I've done some digging and found that the service operator has a notice on their website stating the stop is currently being diverted around due to road works. The council also have an interactive map of their stops so users can plan a journet and the one in question has been taken off the map. So it seems to suggest that the stop is closed and laziness has prevailed when deciding whether or not to inform the public and put a sign up. I have submitted a form challenging the ticket with this information and some pictures of the stop. Let's see what comes back

drift_bear
Just out of curiosity is the bus stop got double yellow lines? You should find the bus stop sign has been covered or there's a notice uctually in the shelter
Shane
Good luck with this. I got a ticket in Northampton last month, I had parked in a resident permit holder space and hadn't realised it was. But when I got back to the car and discovered the ticket, I looked up at the sign and noticed that someone had taped out the times on the sign. I took photos and appealed on the grounds that it was unclear what the time restrictions were because the time was taped out, tape that could even be seen in their own photos taken by the warden.... and lost

You should find the bus stop sign has been covered or there's a notice uctually in the shelter There's no lines before the stop dude, cars park right up until it. Then it's double yellow after as there is a junction shortly after. It's not a sheltered stop either but there is a sign on the timetable that says the stop is being diverted for 5 days and all the bus diversion routes are detailed. Another car has parked there today and got a ticket. So seems like some other people are on my wavelength!

Like Pete says, hopefully I get someone reasonable!

I've had arguments like this on a daily basis at work over stops including ones not in use..

Just trying to see if I have a case since it's not in use (along with that part of the actual road for that matter)
Style
This is what it looks like. I was parked where the Vauxhall is, which now has a ticket also: The sign at the stop
drift_bear
You will still get a ticket though buddy, your parked in the bus stop and it doesn't matter if it is in use or not sadly. The designated area is still under jurisdiction 24 hours a day 7 days a week, so you will get finned for being in it
Style
Thanks Alex, that was what I was unsure about really. Will see how the emails pan out and prepare for paying out!
