marc_p
Hi Guys, I have a car I've found for sale and may be able to get it for a very good price, but it's in Spain, does anyone know if I'd be able to drive it back? The issue is that I don't have Spanish Residency or an NIE number, so I can't take the car on it's Spanish plates, insurance isn't an issue as obviously I can insure it on the VIN number, but I can't see me doing 1600 miles too well without number plates. Has anyone done this or found a work around? I could possibly just whack on my Texas license plates, but imagine if I did get pulled, it could be a nightmare. j_jza80
I got pulled over by Spanish police last year, simply because they didn't see many British cars in the area I was driving, so personally I would avoid putting your Texas plates on. gordy.r
I'd just drive it on the Spanish plates and if you get stopped just explain that you've just bought it. I wouldn't foresee many issues if I'm honest...hell, I'm looking into the feasibility of buying something in Japan and driving it back to the UK lol
Zeiretto
On the day you buy it, the car should still be registered on the Spanish owner's name. Just create a document of some sorts that you both sign so you can show the police you bought it and it's your car now, taking all the responsibility should something happen. Add his phonenumber so they can call him to confirm. Insure it on the VIN and drive home without a worry on your mind. I did the same when I picked up my Supra in Sweden (although I didn't get pulled over).

j_jza80
What did they ask to see when you got pulled? . They asked to see my documents, so I showed them my V5, proof of insurance etc. they had a good poke around the car. To be fair, I think they pulled me over just to look at my Supra
