Acceleration on a N/A

I'm not sure if I have a problem or not but..... I have a problem with the car not ticking over from cold which we still have'nt worked out the problem for that yet but I think its related somehow to my acceleration (Possible Problem).

I have had the car at Leons and had my Cambelt cahnged and he checked the diagnostic codes.....none came back. My timing was way out anyway but Leon has had this all set up now but still has'nt cured cold tick over.

Now down to my possible acceleration problem. Sometimes when I boot it it accelerates quite dull and other times it has a boost like kick at 5000rpm. I know its a N/A but I swear it should accelerate alot smoother and quicker than what it does.

The things I think could be problem areas are:

Temperature control sensor (Cold idle)

Fuel Pump

Fuel pump ECU?

Questions on a postcard

NA's do get a kick at about 5,000rpm. That's normal. Why its dull sometimes is odd though.

What fuel are you running in it? Is it an auto? Is it the difference between O/D on or off? What were the air temps like?

What do you mean by "not ticking over" does it have a lumpy idle or does it cut out?

We need more specifics please

Fuel: Optimax

Gearbox: 5 Spd Manual

Cuts Out untill normal running temperature

Answers above, ThunDeR would love a TT but I had my reasons for the N/A ;)

I get this sort of slugish problem once and awhile, I find that if i drive the car around town a lot for a couple of days and don't really give it any high speed or acceleration that the car behaves really slowly as if the engine management has changed the way the engine behaves to my actions, but as soon as i give it a good canning once or twice than its back to normal, basically i've come to the conclusion just drive like your late to get somewhere all the time:D

I think i have the same problem mine is running lumpy on idle, more so when the air con is on. When i accelerate hard there is a flat spot from 4000 to 4500 sometimes it cant get past that rev range unless i ease of, then after 4500 its fine. I'm taking mine to a guy called Supraman in Kent in a couple of weeks who thinks he knows what it is. I'll keep you posted. On a different subject hows the de-cat does it make the car perform/sound any better, is it both or just one cat removed.

Its just the second cat that has been removed. Have'nt really much performance difference but does sound better. Fitting an Apexi Induction kit when it arrives from Japan soon and that should sound nice and hopefully kill some of the deadness below 5000rpm

Guys, I have exactly the same problem with my Supra. I can't find any logical or even coincidental reason for it ... Sometimes it's really fast and sometimes not ... ???

I would be really interested to know if your Apexi Intake has any effect because I was thinking about getting too. And please let us know what Supraman says.

Cheers

Scott,

I don't recommend you take your N/A to Supraman. Had the cooling system on my N/A flushed out by him a year back. On pick up the car had the acceleration of a hedgehog. Plugs were flooded with water. He insisted they would dry out in a week but they didn't. After getting the plugs dried out the car still wasn't right - turned out the front cat was totally knackered - but b4 he had the car it was driving perfectly. Just be careful and keep a close eye on things if you take it to him.

I'd recommend Woodcock services in Surrey, they service all of the motors for the Jap Import Centre.

Hope this helps,

Raj

I know how to overcome the problem my fellow NA massif . .fit a huge great f*****f Garret turbo in there . . no complaints, no sluggishness - just sheer beastality !!!!!:

devil:  :flame Dev

God that was aggressive. . may I suggest you take it to a Toyota dealership and ask them why they dont know what the problem ever is ?
