2jzgte timingbelt gear play

Not sure if I really understand or should I say believe the question.

If you are asking if either of the cam gears should have 1mm of play or movement when the belt is on and tensioned, then no there should be none.

If you have and is this related to your knocking problems, then most likely yes.

i can see on the timingbelt that it looks a little flussy, the belt has only about 1500 km on it.. other than that, does it look alright to reuse??

Well there should not be. If the photo is of your actual gear the key way looks OK, send a photo (a really GOOD photo) of the nose of the crankshaft. The timing gear should need a puller to get it off. Has the crank damper been run loose at any time? Send a photo of the bore in the damper, too.

And as if by magic you post them as I was typing :) Sorry to say that it looks like you need a new cranksahft. If you have access to a micrometer and know how to use one properly, or know someone who does, measure the nose of the crank in a few places. it looks knackered. Still good to see the hole in the crank damper and its key way. Cheers.

We have messure the crankshaft nose off the crankshaft, and it was ok... what do you mean with krackered??

If the timing gear will easily rotate side to side when on the crank, then either the gear or the crank nose is worn (knackered). So is one or both key way slots. To me the nose of the crank looks a mess in the photo, and one of the key way slots looks wider than the other.

It is the picture that does that, everthing look worse on pictures i think :) it is only on the keyway that it kan rotate NOT the crankshaft.. i am pretty sure that previous owner when they last time change the front mail seal, made the keyway ON the timing gear a little bigger, to easyer let it slide over the key ON the crank :D

the harmonic dampner, i think that this will be alright..

it is between the arrows that there is 1mm of play when it goes over the key on the crankshaft, and you can see that they have cut/taken some of the edge at both arrows , that is what i belive is the reason of the play

some closere pictures of the crank.. the arrows show some badmarks, but it is from a flathead screwdriver because the key was very stuck in the keyway

Does look worse on the dampner keyway for sure, whats the condition of the keys like?

The keyes look ok, only one that i pretty damage, because it was very tight fit on the keyway on the crankshaft, so had to use a little force to get it off, that way it is so damagde have ordede new keyes and a new timing gear..

Everything looks as if it's been sanded with 60 grit wet and dry, or filed. If you leave the keys out can you push the timing gear on the crank, and pull it off again by hand? What about the damper?

it lookes like that yes.. it is a tight fit, but yes it is posible yes to slide it on with a little grese..
