Chris Wilson
https://www.facebook.com/videoholic0/videos/481632375362820/ Let's hope they are getting better with this technology, they are now playing things with a LOT of inertia in the HGV's. They weren't so &%#~ hot with this car They don't seem TOO darned sure, as they are using a model to demo it against at first!

Marcus GTE
Hopefully it's one step closer to your car driving you home from the pub. That's ultimately where I'm hoping this technology will trickle down to.

Good thinking, just need a device to FIND the car for you when you have had a few too many now

I'll bet money the authorities won't allow that for sometime.....if ever
Digsy
How different is this to the "citybrake" or similar systems that many cars have now? My new Merc says it will stop me smacking into the back of another car in a queue. Not sure if its as aggressive as that, though. No, I haven't tested it yet! Chris Wilson
No idea, set up an experiment and let us know Polystyrene block? Or does it need to be metallic? Cover in aluminium foil?
ianhid
One of those techs that's getting better all the time. If it stops another sleepy/distracted driver from annihilating someone who's stuck on a hard shoulder/running lane, that's good news. Certainly wouldn't want to rely on it or test it myself yet though More than happy to have self driving cars as long as I'm still allowed to drive mine manually when I want to. Digsy
No idea, set up an experiment and let us know Polystyrene block? Or does it need to be metallic? Cover in aluminium foil? Not likely Mine puts a red warning light up on the dash if it judges I am too close to the car in front. If the gap starts decreasing above a certain rate the light starts to flash and beep. Apparently then next stage if for the car to start braking.

Marcus GTE
Don't think your meant to drive it in that condition... not in the city anyway! I was thinking more auto pilot- either the steering wheel shrinks away like in the film demolition man, or you sit in the passenger seat and it drives you up the rd. Next step is to retrofit the system to older cars. Or phone a taxi, whatever
