trevorc
Hi, I recently brought an OEM stoplight from Japan as my UK supra that came with a LED placeholder unit. I've tested the LED unit with a power source after it was fitted and the bulb lights up when given electricity, so it works itself. All the other lights and rear windscreen heater work so believe wiring to be ok, i.e. press on brake normal brake lights turn on. Next step I was going to try was to pull the boot plastic's up to see if it is as simple as a junction box connector not plugged in. Any thoughts/advice welcome. ripped_fear
I guessed as the UK didn't have a working one from the factory the loom would be non existent, if that's the case I guess you'd have to splice into the oem wiring in the tail lights
Burna
It's certainly going to be a fun job for I can tell you that from past experience! lol As you've probably found, there's a plug there with you can plug the LED brake light into, but that's where the easy part finishes. It's been over ten years since I did mine, so the exact details are a bit hazy, but I do remember the whole rear interior of the car has to come out (Rear seats etc..) and the wiring loom you've plugged into finishes up above the rear quarter window on the passenger side. Can't exactly remember what me and a mate did next, but I guess we connected the loom to the brake circuit. I'll see if my mate can remember. trevorc
plug and wires are all there I think the issue was the LED lights where brand new for cars at the time 93/94 and hadn't been made legal for road use as they are now. I was reading one of the supra wiring pdf's and it seemed like J5 was a key junction box for this aspect as that is the point that all the rear lights feed from near the rear quarter somewhere underneath... Yep you are right, the legislation back then didn't allow the LED brake light setup on the Supra, also the rear light arrangement is different because of the legal distance at the time required between the brake light and fog light. I've had a chat with my mate and neither of us can quite remember all the details, as it was over 10 years ago :/ But I know for a fact we traced the plug all the way up to the roof above the rear passenger quarter window, start there and have a look, that's where it all wires in mate. Rob W
As above, I've read before that some UK Spec 3rd brake lights was never connected/didn't work because they wasn't legal at the time. Saying that, on our UK Spec the 3rd brake light has always worked. Strange.
Kev.O
My '95 works so it depending on the age of your UK, it might just be the LED cluster.
Burna
The very last UK ones had them in.
