Ian W Posted September 15, 2005 Share Posted September 15, 2005 searched to no avail.......really. my car already has Lenso GMs on it but they're 8.5 all round instead of having wider rears. question is, is this ruining the car or can i get away with just having wider tyres on the rear? also, if the wheels are crap then does anyone have a set of stock jobbies lying around i can pur-chase? SupraSymz Posted September 15, 2005 Share Posted September 15, 2005 Mate, when I put my 19" Rials on my car, the style I wanted was available in all sorts of offset, but only 10" width, so that is what i have on all 4 corners. Whilst yours are 8" front and back, the point i'm making is that having the same wheel width doesn't seem to be much of a handling issue, the car feels fine...maybe if i were Jensen Button I'd notice some difference, but I'm not, so I don't. As for what the car looks like,...well beauty is in the eye and all that..., but ding dong, to my eye the car went up from "fine chickadee motor" to "babelicious happening machine", so go 18's or 19's, you know it makes sense. I have a J-spec '93 TT but am running 17 x 8" and 235/45 rubber (Yokohama Grand Prix) all round - from what people say here this seems to be a potential problem. Any advice? (just kidding) i'm quite glad i seem to be far from the only one suffering from this problem but it still seems no clearer as to what the solution is. some say that i'm fine to put 265/35s on the rear but i've also been told that they're too wide and i could only go as far as 255/40s (stock?) if ANYONE can clear this up once and for all please, please do so!! Nick Posted September 19, 2005 Share Posted September 19, 2005 I've got the following: Front (18*9) with 245/40ZR18 Rear (18*10) 275/35/ZR18 This gives a near perfect rolling radius to stock. The cars been slightly lowered (10mm rear, 35mm front I think) and there's no clearance problems at all. If you have the same size wheels all round then chances are they're the wrong offset too. Get some stock wheels on there, with stock tyre sizes and you're find the handling will be greatly improved... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

With an 18x8½" wheel you wouldn't want to go any more than 255/40/18 265/35/18 tyres can be safely fitted to wheels between 9" and 10½" wide. The Supra should have wider tyres at the rear. Ian W Posted September 20, 2005 Author Share Posted September 20, 2005 i know it's probably worth nothing as i was asking the same question but what i've been told is basically that you should keep as close to stock as possible for best handling. ideally the rear wheels should be wider but if not then the rear tyres should be wider than the fronts. with your size of wheels you're probably better off running stock tyre sizes (although the stock 255/40 rears could be a little too large for your wheel (?))... how does your car handle with it's current set-up btw?
