Guest loughman Posted April 24, 2016 Share Posted April 24, 2016 Hi folks I bought a caliper rebuild kit for front calipers, twin piston type. Kit consists of pistons, seal, dust boot and retaining/split ring. I have rebuilt calipers in the past on other cars. However those kits never contained the retaining ring. Can anyone give any advice as to where this retaining ring goes and what is the best way to install it. Any other advice re caliper rebuild would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Am i better to put the ring into the recess before putting the boot on the piston or do i put the boot on the piston and push into caliper and then fit the ring at the very last? Scooter Posted April 25, 2016 Share Posted April 25, 2016 Ah these are fiddly, you need to put the piston right down/in, then the new boot rest it on top, then the metal ring you need to sort of lift one end up and one down and feed the lower end into rubber gap and push it down into the groove (it'll disappear into the rubber) then try and work the rest down and in all the way round. Thanks for the advice and thanks in advance. Boot and then ring, or both at the same time. The ring actually holds the boot in place, there's a little recess in the caliper it sits in.
