spikedjack
There is always room for negotiation of a total loss settlement. The original offer I recoeved for my written off 1998 tt6 vvti rz with only 50k on the clock was about £3k. Following negotiations and supplying evidence of other vehicles, I gave them the option (which you can request), pay me market value so I can replace my car, or buy me another supra, same spec, year, mileage etc.... You can guess which option they chose

Burna
The insurance company has to put you back in the same financial position you were in before the accident. That means the current market value, and NOT what you paid for it. Edited April 28, 2016 by Burna (see edit history)
ashloys
I had a claim with Adrian Flux for the theft of a car (Equity Red Star was the underwriter) and they were SHOCKING. I had to put in an official complaint to the ombudsman to get it sorted, which it did promptly after that. But if you do claim make sure you build up a portfolio of what your car is worth based on other similar examples. Whether it be screenshots off forums, auto trader, pistonheads, quotes to import etc. That's what I did with my JZX100 chaser and I got a fair payout of the value after initially being offered 2k. I ended up with a LOT more.

I did the exact same, my analogy was: "if I bought a Ferrari for £0.50 and it got stolen, I wouldn't want the 50p back, I'd either want another Ferrari or the money to replace like for like" Edited April 28, 2016 by spikedjack (see edit history)
