FLASHING O/D Lights

Hi All

I have the dreaded O/D Flashing light problem on my 93 TT Auto Supra [sAD][/sAD]. I have tried the splice trick with the pink and blue/red cable and it is still the same. The car still drives fine but won't allow me to go over 3,000rpm. It will gradually accelerate and not kick down a gear. The thing is. I was out a long drive on Saturday and the car drove perfectly. The only thing I did on Sunday morning was put my other alloys on the car and wasn't even out for 2 mins when the O/D Light started flashing.

Can anyone point me in the right direction in how to sort this please?

any help would be much appreciated or if anyone is local and willing to help me.

Thanks

Smyth

First thing is to read any error codes that might be stored by the ECU. You just need a paperclip and 2 minutes of your time. Search on here for the instructions. A couple of things people are often tripped up by: 1) you'll need to disarm the immobiliser when the time comes to read the flashes. 2) it's not uncommon for the engine MIL light (the orange engine symbol) not to work due to a dry solder on its circuit board: if that's the case, you'll need to fix this problem first before you can read error codes.

If you want to do a thorough job, disconnect the battery first (or unplug specific fuses, but I can't remember which ones) to clear out any old codes.

Thanks stevie_b - I will do the diagnostic test and see what comes from it. The engine management light stays off and never comes on after starting up the car.

mine has done this for over ten years , problem probably is speed sensors ,

Peter does yours stay at 3,000rpm and gradually increase and not drop gear to give you more power? Also have you managed to sort it?

Thanks

Does it come on when you turn the ignition to position 2 (i.e. without the engine started)?

yes as does the oils lights then they all go off when the engine is started. Thanks

mine comes on after i start to drive just flashing , not used the car for a while so cant remember i think i get a triangle come on as well which is picking up on the od light flashing , but it doesnt make any difference in the drive of the car probably why i havnt looked any further into fixing it ,it is a common fault though

Thanks. The problem with mine though is that it doesnt seem to drive like its suppose to due to not dropping gears. its staying at 3,000rpm and gradually climbing. Like a sort of gearbox limp mode.

Funny you say this mine has just come on flashing yesterday! if I press the mini button on the auto gearbox inwards then it will flash on & off. However, if the button is not pushed in then the O/D light stays on "Overdrive off".

It would seem you have the same problem. The light shouldn't flash. You do have the option to switch it off but when it flashes its telling you there is a problem. I cant seem to sort it and its driving me insane as the car was perfect the other day. :(

I have carried out the diagnostic reading with the paperclip and the engine managment lights keeps flashing and so does my over drive light??? Any one any ideas as i don't have a clue what the fault is. Is there a level sensor in the autobox for oil? would the over drive light flash if the oil was low? The gearbox with recently serviced about 4,500 miles ago?

I don't know what else to try :(

Thanks
