Westy
Car is booked in for its MOT first thing tomorrow morning and my rear drivers side (jspec 1pot) rear Caliper has decided to start sticking! I don't have a seal kit or spare piston to do a rebuild but wanted to ask if there was anything I could do today to help it pass the MOT? Dnk
If its the slider pins you could take them off and clean up easily, re grease and fit back together, if its the piston try pushing it all the way back into the caliper then pump it back out, and repeat a few times, you could remove the outer seal and lube behind it as well and repeat the in out with the piston to free it up then re fit the outer seal, hopefully it wont fall apart if its not too degraded
Westy
Thanks Dunk. I did pump it out and rewind it all the way back in yesterday but it just stuck again upon first drive out. Disk is scalding. Will try what you've suggested but I don't have any red rubber grease either.:/ What other lube could I use? Dnk
A Lithium grease will do, glycol based If its the piston you could pump it out and clean the outside diameter with wet & dry paper and re fit it, then just bleed the caliper Obviously you need to clean the inside piston bore too and be careful removing the inner piston seal Edited April 17, 2016 by Dnk (see edit history)
