Diff/gearbox question

Hi guys,

From all the tech specs I've read from the factory the V160 gearbox was mated to the B03b differential and the V161 was mated to the A03b diff, my car is stamped up on its plate as having the V160 but it's stamped as being the A03b diff any ideas as to why? Thanks

As your car is a 1996, that was the crossover period between pre-facelift and facelift. There were 'discrepancies' in the specs which were made at this time. Some of the cars had visual variations as well such as pre-facelift lights but on an otherwise 'facelift' car. Some also had both the front bumper side markers and side markers on the wings!

It may be as simple as that. :)

I have the opposite to you, my 98TT has a V161 mated to a B03b :)

You're not alone, I saw a genuine car a good few years ago that had the facelift exterior, pre-facelift dash & non-VVTI engine, but had the v161 and 'small' diff. It wasn't modified as the VIN plate validated with Toyota specs. There are quite a few mix-and-match cars out there, but very rare.

I feel your pain though! Post your specs of the diff, they're not all bad if they have the stronger crown wheel (as your car will probably have). It all depends on how much torque you're building for.

Mine has the non vvti engine, facelift dash, recaros, pre facelift steering wheel proper mish mash by Toyota, what specs do you mean mate I just know it's stamped as A03b or is there something else stamped up? The aim is around 700whp mark
