Glanza_Mike
Hey guys, Just installed a new walbro 485 in tank pump and put everything back together, not getting any fuel leaks. But the car starts and idles fine for 5 seconds, then gets lumpy and idle drops and it stalls. But it will immediately start once again and run perfect for 5 seconds until the same thing repeats. Anyone experienced similar or knows that to do please? Thanks.
Nic
Will it keep running with a bit of throttle? if it will, it could just be the ECU has been reset. Edited April 13, 2016 by Nic (see edit history)
Glanza_Mike
Juat tried and it died immediately as i pressed throttle, much faster than letting it idle. Edited April 13, 2016 by Glanza_Mike (see edit history)

Ric
Isnt the 12v fuel mod extremely un-safe?
Glanza_Mike
all good now Chris, seems to have sorted my fuel problem and given me instant power too which is awesome Ric: I don't think so, but there is a better way to do it, you're supposed to use a relay so i'll be fixing that this weekend. sebas
Hi! is somewhere instructions on how to make 12V modifications with relay?

Pudsey
Just out of interest really. What fuel pump were you using? Just checked your build thread, but couldn't spot any following assumed bpu upgrades.
sebas
Thank you! Here mate: http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/topic/27751-new-and-improved-12v-fuel-pump-mod/
trebor69
Where did you buy the pump from? I bought an Ebay (cheap) Walbro pump and it had exactly the same issue, I then bought one from Whifbitz and it worked fine......lesson learned, buy cheap-buy twice. TheTurtleshead
Sometimes you get away with it and the pump will run from the stock fuel pump ecu, sometimes you need to wire up a relay which is triggered by the fuel pump ecu. Good time to run a new 30amp fused feed from the fuse box for your new pump
Glanza_Mike
Running a walbro 485 pump, and yeah i'll be fitting a relay into the line this weekend mate thanks
berg
Would it be worth using a fused relay for this job? Or does it not matter as its fused at the box anyway?
Sheefa
Glad it's elk sorted mate. When does your gauge arrive?
Pudsey
Sorry if you didn't see or understand the question I was asking. I was just interested in what fuel pump you removed, due to the fuel dropping off top end? Was it a stock tt pump or a uprated Walbro 255. Edited April 13, 2016 by Pudsey Walbro 255.... Glanza_Mike
Would it be worth using a fused relay for this job? Or does it not matter as its fused at the box anyway? Not sure to be honest Mate, i'll just follow what it advises in that thread i posted. Glad it's elk sorted mate. When does your gauge arrive? /QUOTE] Arrived this morning buddy Sorry if you didn't see or understand the question I was asking. I was just interested in what fuel pump you removed, due to the fuel dropping off top end? Was it a stock tt pump or a uprated Walbro 255. Ahh sorry mate i did misunderstand or misread, it was a stock tt pump. I had everything else for bpu but i read in several threads that fuel pump was optional while doing this. And as i knew i woukd be going single i didnt want a 255 walbro only to change it again so i left it. Turns out a fuel pump certainly isn't optional! Pudsey
Ah I see. I was wondering whether it was the uprated one, but that explains it then. Thanks for clariying Glad you got it sorted too
Chris Wilson
There's a glut of fake Walbro pumps around at the moment that give no end of trouble. Most seem to originate from Ebay sellers.
Sukhy
Yes. A few of the Evo owners got their hands on a bad batch which seized up. Ensure they are genuine when purchasing. I run the same pump as this now too.

I run the same pump as this now too. How can you know for sure if it's genuine? The company i bought it from says on their website they guarantee it is as they order direct from USA but who knows i guess.
