Decided to list some of my old warhammer which ill never ever use no more on ebay from when i was like 12 years old. The amount of adverts i looked at which the sellers put down as 'pro painted' was incredible and the actual detail was shocking... anyway i listed some old rubbish ones BUT does any of you guys paint or still play or build models?

I have a bit of a geeky side and models nowadays are just cool as hell. I have been painting for a long time and i occasionally paint if i get the time and just want to chill the hell out. very rare. I have started 2 new models which ill prob sell on as i just enjoy the painting in the models as detail now is phenomenal...

here are some pics of the 2 i have started lol... fetching decent money now so hopefully these will too

I used to collect Warhammer 40k when i was younger and loved it, i still collect Pokemon cards now so yes i can certainly confirm i have a geeky side, or am actually just a complete and utter nerd :p

They look awesome, very detailed!

I still have pokemon cards gathering dust in the loft from my childhood days, just waiting for value to go up

I have the full complete sets of the base, forest, fossil and rocket took me years to get them all in mint condition plus hundreds of other rare cards, dont think ive ever looked at them in the last 12 years lol

How much do they sell for these days?

Varies drastically from card to card, regular cards still don't fetch much at all, the value is in the first edition (first printed) sets. They are the ones i collect.

I might buy some off you though if you can be bothered to get up the loft mate :D

I have the first seven sets all 1st edition and two or three other sets just normal, they are worth loads now, might be worth a little fortune in the future.

I did the Warhammer 40k thing for a few months while at school, but was never any good. I actually dug it out the other day while sorting some old stuff, might see if there's anything of any value :) I also used to do a few Airfix kits when I was younger, but haven't done any for years. I have bought a few in recent years though, mainly to make some money on. One I bought for £50 was worth £250 within a few months :)

I've also got a Tamiya Supra to build. Intend to do a fairly basic one to start with, then when I've got an idea about how it goes together I intend to make a replica of every one of my Supras :)

I've brought all the closet Pokemon geeks out the woodwork :D

I hear some of those Pokemon cards are worth a fortune now. I had Pokemon Blue on my original gameboy but I was probably a bit old for the cards when they came out. I did have loads of Star Wars Tazos when I was young though :)

All of mine are the original ones first sets, i grew out of it by the time all the newer stuff started coming out

I do remember when i was about 17 though and i paid £30 for the blue turtle one (sounds ridiculous but dont know the name lol) as it was the only one i was missing from the base set

Id definately sell the sets i have as each one is in a collectors folder too, or hang on if value is likely to increase some more

I still remember getting that Charizard card when i was about 10, i was the local celebrity with random kids knocking my door just to see it lol

I have to admit I am surprised to see another miniature painter on here, I guess fast cars and toy soldiers is not so unusual a combination! Anyway here's a couple of mine

  • 2 weeks later...

some nice jobs there guys,

out of interest do you guys use the citadel paints, or some others, I've always used Citadel colour, but never really got on with it, always seems to dry on the brush too quickly, and if I dilute it I don't get the coverage I want.

collected from a very young age, and dug some out last year to give it another go.

Citadel paints are decent at the moment. The current paints don't always dilute with water very well (depends on your water hardness, mineral composition etc), an acrylic medium such as Liquitex Matte Medium can really help if you have problems with the pigments separating when diluting. Coverage is just a case of working with a couple layers, if you go on too thick it'll look chalky. The paints do dry quickly on the brush if you're not thinning much, close to consistency of milk works well but needs more coats to get the opacity back. Thin coats are easier to blend for highlights. I don't always bother thinning lots, it depends how much I care about the way the model looks vs how many of them I need to do...

Vallejo paints are pretty good, they separate more than Citadel paints though so need a really good mix before use. I've also been using a grey primer (Tamiya) for a while now. I find black undercoat makes everything too dark but does hide areas you missed if painting in a hurry.
