370z or Gen2 Cayman

I test drove a GT86 and a 370Z almost back to back last year.

The 350Z had plenty of power, bags of torque and sounded good too, but the interior finish was definitely of primark construction. Such an awfully cheap place to sit.

The GT86 felt a much nicer place to be, but lacked the power of the 370Z.

I'd probably take the GT86 over the 370Z with the knowledge that there are now plenty of on the shelf forced induction kits.

I've owned a pretty much new (400 miles) 370z and a 57 plate Cayman 3.4 S version

The cayman wins on looks, stunning bit of machinery. Won on handling as well but for everything else I'd say probably the 370z. Sure, it isn't as special but its a more 'sensible' choice. I always felt like I was waiting for something to gone wrong with the Porsche, so many horror stories and you really need a good warranty. Buying/selling can be a pain as there are soooo many options for the Porsche. I bought from dealer and sold to a dealer which made it easier but got messed around so many times with private sale it was crazy.

I did consider a newer Cayman, they are supposed to be much more reliable and much better interior - I think from 09 onwards, I'd possibly have one of those over the 370z but a big price difference.

I did love the 370z, easily a car you could use everyday and a good step up from the 350 (had two of those). But the Porsche was always more 'special'.

Yes had a 350 myself and loved it,now thinking 370,but when you narrow down year, colour, miles and price they are pretty scarce.20k might get a 12 plate 370 but it only buys a 09 cayman, will just need to try both

If you are aiming to spend 20k ish I'd go 370z, much more useable car. If closer to 30k I'd say a newer Porsche as more of a toy. Depends what you are after really. I fitted twin induction kit to my zed, sounded amazing, much better than the Porsche which sounded quite understated.

For God's sake don't get a pre 09 one, the intermediate shaft issue is just too risky to even contemplate.

Whilst the badge snobs would scream Porsche I find Caymans have poor, overly heavy brakes and even poorer real

world performance unless you thrash the hell out of them, and their road noise is extremely tiresome. I would go for the Nissan myself.

Plus I think the Nissan 350/370Z are hideous and have the interiors out of a Hyundai Coupe

I don't think they're that bad, although they obviously aren't a match for their German equivalents in quality.

However, the Cayman cockpit is very dull. It is well built, but devoid of any character.

Not a fan of the Boxster. My mate has an early 986 Boxster S. We went out and compared my Stock TT6 to it...first problem was at 6'4" I simply don't fit. Seat right back the steering wheel was still on my knee and my legs were cramped in. Engine note was nice once it got up to the top end, but there was never any real accumulation of pace, a modern hot hatch like a Focus ST is just as fast in a straight line. The balance of the car was beautiful and very neutral, but that just made it dull...there was never any drama, any feeling of mechanical grip, or where the limit was. Definitely not for me.

Convertible is not my thing, seems it rains all the time up here, otherwise I would have had the nice aerotop that was on here recently. There are not that many coupe options at low money with reasonable power.l notice if you buy from a Porsche dealer you get an unlimited 2year warranty however they ain't cheap,so I guess it will be the Z,unless of course an irrisistable Supra turns up:)

You tryin' to call him a puff....? ;)

A guy around the corner took me out in his the other day - the more modern version with the circular lights. For £12k I was really quite impressed. Well built, engine where it should be, comfortable, sounded nice. I was honestly quite impressed.

Some of the neighbours have questioned his sexuality for a while, I'm sure it's all just a coincidence though.
