Aerotop Dave
That's my exhaust, and that bit I've arrowed in the first pic has gone all manky. Do I need to do something about this? (I thought these fancy HKS exhausts weren't meant to rust?) It doesn't look like an bit I can replace as it's attached to the exhaust itself...? Also, what's that big heat shield doobry under my car in the third pic that looks like something big and important has fallen off? Is there meant to be something there? And... feck me, the rust. I mean... blimey. Rust. Look at it.
LeeT
the hks exhausts do rust. they are not stainless. although that doesnt look that bad to me. it still looks structually sound. the heat shield is where the standard exhaust used to run. i removed it on my car
hadyn
Anything mild steel will rust unfortunately - this is why FULLY stainless steel systems are a good thing Looks like you've indicated your redudant heatshield in the 3rd pic? I wouldnt worry about that going rusty

merckx
Not sure if this is the correct stuff to use, it's for inside doors, sills and cavaties etc. It's not underseal.
koolance
so what should i be using !?

Correct, but I've just had mine all wired brushed underneath and Waxoiled. Problem with coating everthing in underseal is when you need to work on it/ undo bolts etc. it's all caked in the stuff. The benefit with Waxoil is it isn't so thick and gooey so will wipe off if work needs doing. I agree that it won't last so long but if you make it a yearly event then it'll be fine. I wouldn't put the underseal stuff on any bits of the car that would need removing, they aren't rust proofed anyway. I put the underseal on the chassis only, leaving the suspension , subframe etc. Maybe underseal on the chassis, sills etc and the waxoil on everything else. Paul
Yeah, not a bad idea. The problem with underseal though is if there is any moisture trapped on application or a break in the coating it could be more harmfull than leaving it to the elements. Waxoil on the other hand is a thinner waxy oil (hence the name ) and I prefer this solution although not as permanent. Paul
merckx
Yep, trouble with underseal is that it covers everything up.
Aerotop Dave
is that a uk model ?! my car is a fresh import and has 0 rust underneath... It's an Aerotop, so it's a J spec (basic Supra theory... ) That's at 88,000 miles. I was quite shocked myself.

Ben-san
Selling for parts. I'd snatch your arm off if you sell the zorst... Just managed to break mine today - about to find out what it looks like underneath tomorrow when it's on a ramp. Might find just as much rust too... I'll post you some pics - we have about the same mileage. That's definitely the stock exhaust heatsheild.

normore1
Use a wire brush on a drill to clean up the rust on the support then paint with high heat silver engine paint. derek
