Living next to a railway station - Earlestown

I live right next to a train line, it's probably about 8-10 mtrs away and I agree with the fact that you simply don't notice it, it's quite a well used track between London and the southwest and I honestly couldn't tell you if there's been a train go through in the last 5 years.

As mentioned before there is obviously the maintenance work which is the only thing I've heard but they seem to start this as late as possible so I'm usually asleep by the time they start and it's only been maybe 3 times in the last 5 years for about 3 nights each.

When i used to live in my parents house a good few years back, the tracks were a mere 2x gardens from the back of their house with a small stop a few seconds down the line.

Pretty busy line to be honest with Freight also running through, its not that bad, if the worst came to it and you couldnt deal with the noise, you could just invest in some decent sound proof windows?

The only downside was being woken up in the night when there was work going on the line, mainly Chainsaws cutting trees etc but it was pretty rural.

Being closer to a station, i wouldnt have thought there would be too much noise other then trains stopping/pulling away and the tannoy.
