kevin smith
A new member is looking at buying supra, and the advert says it is a hybrid turbo. Can someone tell me what is a hybrid turbo. Many thanks Kevin.
Gaz6002
Welcome. It's a turbo that is the same size as a standard one, but has been modified for better airflow characteristics so in theory should make more power, or higher boost sooner in the rev range. The trade-off is they're rarely anywhere near as reliable as standard ones.
gordy.r
Just stock turbos (usually jspecs) with uprated internals allowing them to run at a higher boost level.
MATT RR
would I be right in saying Hybrids would usually be steal blades as appose to ceramic which you find on jap imports?
supra_ufo
would I be right in saying Hybrids would usually be steal blades as appose to ceramic which you find on jap imports? THIS, mine is hybrid because its the J spec turbo that uses ceramic blades and changed with steel internals.

It doesn't matter what they're made from, just that they're different to stock inside but not out.
