harryww89
Chaps, Just looking for some advice or knowledge on the Greddy Grex Brake Kit I have on my Supra. I've been searching high and low for a set of replacement discs for the 6pot calipers and they appear to be none existent, I know they have been discontinued for some time now, I have messaged trust, they have provided me with the drawings of the discs but have advised that they are no longer manufactured. I have messaged Alcon with no luck, after searching all of their brake disc sizes, I have yet to come across one which is the same dimensionally, mainly with it being the PCD being 12 holes instead of 10. I have spoken to AP Racing and they have advised the disc is bespoke, but they do manufacture one which is the same dimensionally, apart from the drive bobbin slot dims being slightly larger on their disc; On the APR / Brembo version it’s as follows:- M= 8.2mm L = 10.2mm I have yet to disassemble one of my discs to see how they are held together, but from images I have it just looks as though they are alan headed bolts straight into the disc from the bell. What are my options here chaps? Will I have to get new and unique discs? Can I fit off the shelf items including new bells so long as the dimension in 'B' (21mm) is the same? Any help would be great. Cheers, HarryGReddy ???????.pdfcp5772-124-5cd - Sheet1 (1).pdfGB??????.pdf
Nic
Endless and Project Mu may do discs that are compatible. http://www.endlessusa.com/#!__brake-rotor/brake-rotor-racing http://www.project-mu.co.jp/en/products/rotor_racing.html
Burna
They do look like cap head screws from your photo, but I'll bet they are high tensile ones. Edit: Also PM Littlenum, he recently had some custom brake bells, he'll be able to put you in touch with the chap who did the machining. Maybe better to machine new bells and fit whatever discs you like then. Edited April 1, 2016 by Burna (see edit history)
Chris Wilson
If the AP discs are dimensionally the same except the bolt holes are a different size you might be able to drill out you bells to take bigger fixings. Are the discs floating or bolted solid to the bells? or you could cry enough and choose a similar size commonly available disc from one of the 3 big manufacturers and have bells made to suit. If you go for floating discs (and I would, the front uprights / hub spindles on road cars are floppy as wet paper bags, floating discs help stop judder and pad knock back under certain conditions....), make sure the floaters move in the DISCS and not in the bells, there are 2 types. The bells will wear FAST in a road car and need replacing regularly. No good e-mailing Alcon, you'll have to phone them. EDIT: OK looked briefly at the drawings, you may find you can use the AP discs on your bells just by buying the AP floater kits for them. Ask what bolt PCD the bells should have, and the bolt hole size. Be sure the weight of the AP disc is similar, you don't want a lightweight disc for a lightweight car on the front of your fast lorry They may do different discs in that pattern, with more or less thermal mass. Ican do or have done most work on discs, bells and associated brake stuff. Edited April 1, 2016 by Chris Wilson (see edit history)
Wez
From memory Greddy didnt actually make any brake kits, they are Alcon rebadged, might be worth speaking with them
TheTurtleshead
Send the drawings to Reyland Racing. They may be able to machine an existing pattern disc blank into the right size and PCD for you.
Chris Wilson
Yes. Alcon do the Greddy stuff, but maybe a bastardised size so you have to buy from Greddy (Like gearbox makers order bastard size bearings so you have to pay a fortune from the `box maker) Edited April 1, 2016 by Chris Wilson (see edit history)
harryww89
Thanks for the support chaps. I've dropped martin @ Reyland a note, will see what they come back with. When I spoke to Trust/Greddy they advised the version of the Kit I have was of their own, and not Alcon, but I'm dubious about this information. The calipers take the same pads as the AP Racing CP5060 Calipers, so I think everything is just bastardised as Chris said. Just going to do some drawing checks on the endless & project Mu discs, they look like they could fit, thank you for the links to these! Chris it may be an option to machine the current Greddy Bells to accept the APR discs - I will bare this in mind once i've heard back from all parties. Worst comes to worst I will have to have custom Bells made up and discs to suit by Reyland or similar... Big thanks for the help so far gents!
