Sheefa
Like them a lot Dunk. Colour change or staying silver?
Tsia
I was going to give this a shot on my wheels this weekend - I'll be disappointed if my results don't look that tidy now Nice work
Dnk
Like them a lot Dunk. Colour change or staying silver? Not sure any other colours would work that well, gloss Black perhaps They're going on my 330 so I think the same colour or maybe a lighter silver perhaps. Dnk
I have a die grinder and use Roloc sanding discs on the lips and then finish by hand
Glanza_Mike
Do you use some sort of filler or something to fill in areas that are a bit deep mate or not? Or just sand them right back?
Dnk
I get them welded if its bad enough, I have a mate just down the road from me who does this if required, these weren't that bad and I've just dressed them back I guess you could use body filler or similar but personally i'd rather weld them if required, not sure how filler would like 200 c in the oven if you were powder coating them though ! Or if it would cope with tyre fitting/removal
Tsia
I've already purchased some chemical metal as it reads like it'll do the job - and I might have to purchase a grinder at the weekend as they're only £30 or so from B&Q
Dnk
I've already purchased some chemical metal as it reads like it'll do the job - and I might have to purchase a grinder at the weekend as they're only £30 or so from B&Q I guess it really depends on how large an area your trying to fill and is it on the edge of the lip, it might pay you to do the repair then test it to see how strong it is before continuing with the refurb. Filler would I think just break off with not a great amount of force if on a lip hence I don't use it
Dnk
Finished off the lips today, 180 grit first then 320 grit

Dnk
Before they get finished 'm going to swap the tyres over from the 18's that are on the car and see if i have any rubbing issues. Doing that at 14:00hrs today so fingers crossed
Dnk
Did the tyre swap off the old wheels so I could see if I had any rubbing issues, took it for a test drive and all's good Ordered new rear tyres so just need to crack on and finish them now

mplavery
I would get the new tyres on before you paint them mate, If I knew it was having a tyre I would want that on first just in case anything happens while the new tyre was getting fitted on fresh paint. Just have the rim popped though as you have a BMW im guessing you have run flats so might be hard to have the rim popped all the way round lol
Dnk
The wheels are finished and no problems getting the tyres on and off I don't use run flats, horrid things !! The only problem I have is the replacement centre caps I bought from Racing Dynamics don't fit as they appear to be different to the two that came with the wheels, I emailed them 5 days ago no response and 2 days ago no response, not impressed now
Dnk
Got the centre caps to fit by heating them up in boiling water to make the location pegs a bit more flexible, they still took a lot of force to get them in the wheel. Should be interesting getting them out when the tyres need changing ! Finally got a reply from RD and they put it down to a change in manufacturing and there's not a lot they can do about it other than I send them back and get a refund. At least they replied but i'm happy now they fit so end of drama
