JordanC
Alright chaps, I'm hoping to sort my crank pulley out in the next week or two, anyone know what else should ideally be changed at the same time? Will I need to be ordering new coolant etc too? Any part numbers for Mr T would also be much appreciated. Cheers, Jordan
Scooter
If you are just doing the pulley then there are no major bits that have to come off to get that job done, you could take the chance to get the cambelt coolant etc changed but depends if it's anywhere due. Mike2JZ
If you are happy doing the starter loosen trick, or have enough manliness to get the bolt off with a breaker bar then: - Wait for car to be cool, then loosen top radiator hose from the radiator side. Coolant lose will be minimal as thats the highest point of the coolant system. - Remove fan shroud (can loosly put top tad hose back in place for now) - Remove fan belt - Do starter trick/man strength with bar to loosen bolt - Remove bolt, then use a small pulley puller to remove pulley - Put new pulley on and reassemble This method means you lose barely coolant and don't really need anything but tools and a new pulley to go on. If you aren't happy using the starter trick, then drain the coolant system and remove radiator so you can try gunning the bolt off. You will also need to remove the radiator if your pulley removal tool is large and needs more space (i'd check this first once the fan shroud has been removed). Think there are other ways of doing this job, but these are the ways i've done it to mine before.
Al Massey
Why would you lose any coolant for removing the crank pulley??
Big Mark
Why would you lose any coolant for removing the crank pulley?? Radiator out for ease of access. I did mine and a million other jobs on the car over Easter and with the rad out got an air power impact driver in their and bolt came out easily and then also had room to get a puller in there. Ah yeah I see. Just trying to remember if my rad was in or not when I did it
JordanC
Thanks for this chaps, I read a cambelt change guide on here and it was recommended to take the rad out for space etc and it mentioned needing new coolant that's the only reason I thought it was required. If I can manage to do it with the rad still in place that would be golden but don't mind spending the ££ for the coolant for an easy life. What is the starter loosen trick though? I think its cranking the engine with a breaker bar on the pulley bolt wedged against the floor isn't it? Or am i totally off here?

Engine just needs to be cranked slightly and off it comes. Can save some time if you don't have the tools to loosen the bolt off normally

If you're really fussed about needing more coolant simply drain out rad into a bucket, remove rad and do what you need to do and at the end put it back in the refitted rad. markssupra
Don't forget to unplug the igniter if cranking the engine to loosen the pulley bolt
JordanC
Don't forget to unplug the igniter if cranking the engine to loosen the pulley bolt How do I do this mate? Is it in the workshop manual? I'm far from a mechanic but I wanted to give it a go myself and start to learn a thing or two!
Al Massey
Igniter pack is the small box on the passenger side of the engine bay, just behind the battery. Just unplug the cable.

Scooter
Or just pull an efi fuse in the engine bay, but whilst this will get the bolt and pulley off have you got a plan for torquing it back up?
