dmad
Drove home from work as normal, got out, the alarm wouldn't lock the doors/arm. Funny i thought as had no problems till now at all. Got inside thought maybe its the battery in the fob - but the light on it is working fine and strong. It just doesn't do anything anymore. Now when i unlock the car with the key the alarm just goes off and i can't start it. What the hell am i supposed to do now? Its just totally stopped responding....... Its the standard toyota Cat 1 alarm - yes i am getting it replaced when i get a little more cash in the kitty but i can't drive it now until i work out whats up. I thought maybe disconnect the battery for half an hour????
dmad
Well solved it no thanks to the bloody toyota manual and thanks to the search and the pure luck someone posted up a similar prob. I forced a reset holding down the button at (what i think) is the sensor. Christ knows what caused that.

Sharpie
Dmad, it was not the sliding switch getting stuck in the middle was it ?
dmad
Nah, i figured out that might be some sort of 'lock' to stop the fob being activated by mistake. I tried it both directions and nothing. Im still gonna get a new battery just incase. I hate the alarms that give you no warning when they're gonna die - like some drain and you have to get closer and point it more at the car the lower the battery gets. Others i've found just STOP. Bobbeh
Yeah, the batteries are not great in the fob.. I was told it was advisable to replace them annually.
Branners
You can force a reset of the alarm and fob by pressing down and holding the 2 alarm buttons apparently. That forces a reset and it should be okay. I found one of the UK specs I drove didnt like being near a busy railway line in St Albans. Bobbeh
Hey, I was watching mine from the top of the granstand, and the only time I saw if going off was when the guy in the tent 2 cars down was blasting his ~5000bhp?! dragster, nearly blew my ear drums! Now, my Dad's Celica.. christ thats annoying. The wind sets that off!
dmad
I find the overall alarm workings alright. Not sure how hard it would be to break in this day and age (i guess it helps there are only 400 of them and nobody knows what scorpion it is!). The most annoying thing is it sets as soon as you open the door after ignition off. So every petrol station, stopoff etc you have to lock it and unlock it to prevent it going off. The amount of times i've left a passenger in the car whilst i pop in somewhere and they've had to sit motionless for 10 minutes to halt it deafening them a 3rd time!! Bobbeh
Yeah, I agree with that! If you leave the door ajar it wont set the alarm. So thats ok if theres someone in there to look after the car while you're paying
sinbad
What does that slide thingy on the aide of the fob do then? Anybody?
dmad
It locks it. Prevents accidentally pushing the button.

dmad
Martin - was there a Korean manual N/A Aerotop GZ with leather seats and standard amp? I tried searching......

Had to push the car away so they could carry on using the pumps. I now leave the door resting on the catch just incase the same happens. I also found (by pure accident) that pushing the black button continuously near the sensor will eventually disable the alarm.

I thought that this was to switch on the ultrasonic sensors or not? Indicated by two or three flashes of the indicators when armed. Could be wrong, long time since I looked at the instructions. SMW
I've had the standard alarm replaced twice by Toyota in the 14 months I've owned the car:( It cost approx £110 the first time but failed within 6 months! They tried to charge me the same again until I pointed out that it should be under warranty. The fobs are a bloody liability in that they frequently cease to work, effectively locking you out of the car:eek: I have a diskloc which I regard as a better deterrent so I can't be bothered to upgrade. The slider is definitely for enabling/disabling the internal sensors, these should be checked regularly as they can fail although the locking system will still function.
