tintinmt
Where can I find replacement bump stops and dust covers for the Bilstein shock absorbers without taking out a second mortgage? Are there 'universal' parts that might fit? I can probably re-use the old bump stops but the gaiters have totally disintegrated on mine. Also, what about top mounts front and rear? I have been quoted some crazy figures. I mean - why does one bump stop cost £25! Rear strut mount £175!
Scooter
I'd get the gaitors new and look for used top mounts or reuse along with the bump stops. Gaitors are about £30 a pop I think?
tintinmt
Thx. I probably will re-use the old top mounts although it's not the best job. I can get rear KYB top mounts for about £45 each. But once I get all 4 delivered I'm looking at at least £200 - just for mounts. Any ideas where to get the gaitors / dust covers?

tintinmt
Ah ha! TCB are listing the gaitors - at £25 each as far as I can tell. Thx.
Nic
Ah ha! TCB are listing the gaitors - at £25 each as far as I can tell. Thx. The genuine Toyota parts are expensive. KYB do kits for the Supra which may be cheaper, these are the part numbers they list on their site, I would double check with the seller though before buying as I've never personally used them. tintinmt
I can see how that might work, although the original equipment has the spring seat and dust cover made in one piece.
evinX
TCB parts, i got dust cover and bump stops for £119 delivered including VAT, thats X2 each, called Toyota, £48 pound a peice before VAT was enough for me to say dont worry about it
tintinmt
evinX - did you replace the mounts at the same time? I assume they did not come with the dust covers? Where they KYB parts from TCB? Thanks!
evinX
evinX - did you replace the mounts at the same time? I assume they did not come with the dust covers? Where they KYB parts from TCB? Thanks! This is what i got for the rear of the car Rear shocks - KYB 551070 Rear springs- KYB RF6053 Rear upper mount - KYB SM5186 Rear shock insulator - Toyota 48257-24010 Rear shock bumper - Toyota 48341-24040 KYB parts of ebay, mounts had bolts, but no dust covers, Toyota bits from TCB parts, TCB will have the front insulators and bump stops to Ive looked around, nobody produces the supra dust covers apart from Toyota, i wouldnt punt on anything i dont know as the top of the spring fits against the insulator. evinX
Thanks evinX - very useful. No probs, im trying to hunt down a front setup. When i find one ill update here, but for bump stops and dust covers we have to use Toyota for now.
Chris Wilson
What's the matter with the old bump rubbers?
tintinmt
The 'integral' gaitors have disappeared. Some of the bump stops have partially disintegrated. The rubber spring seats are a bit perished and in some areas compressed very thin. On one I noticed the spring virtually touching the bolt that goes through the body. I guess that they could be re-used, but a new arrangement for dust covers and bump stops would need to be made - especially for the front. Chris Wilson
The ONLY times I see damaged bump stops on the Bilsteins is if the car has been lowered far too much and is riding a lot, or even all the time, on the bump rubbers. This destroys them, but worse, is sending regular insane loads into various suspension components. Is the car lowered?
tintinmt
This could get quite confusing :-). At the moment I'm talking about a set of your springs and some Bilstein dampers that I bought from a member here. I am planning to fit the springs, once I have determined whether I can or should replace the spring seats, bump stops and gaitors while I'm at it. My car is currently on stock springs. I can see that the gaitors have all disappeared but I'm not sure of the condition of the bump stops as I've not removed the suspension.
